I've raced at an event in Chasewater. Someone walked past me in the middle of the lake. I'd say it is as pedestrian a swim as you'll get 'up North. (Not Welsh cold...)

Ellesmere has moved from its May date to September now. And run by UKTriathlon or whatever they call themselves. Pretty sure there is a half and oly there now.

Maybe just go and do an aquathlon and see how you get on. There are quite a few in the winter, generally a 400m swim. 5k run.

I'm not sure why think it's more fun running if you are also a swim ...
