In 2002 i ruptured my ACL and MCL playing football and was told i would not be having an op on the NHS and could never play again (along with many other things!)... After doing some freeride / downhill MTB'ing for a couple of years, I starting to swim again in August 07 and thought, i cycle, i swim...all i need to do is run a little..how about earning a little money for charity and sign up for the London Oly! I went on to enjoy my first season in tri so much I have done a 2nd, gone sub 2:30 for an Olympic distance got round an ironman and am still going!
When not training I can be seen at the Boleyn Ground being a long suffering season ticket holder at the 1966 World cup winners West Ham Rolling Eyes

After an not so early start and porridge and honey for breakfast I arrived at the dome at 8:30 ready for my first stand alone half marathon. Immediatly I was greeted by a volunteer withthe not so good news of a delayed start meaning at least 2 hours stood around in the cold. Time seemed to drag but eventually I made my way to Pen 3 for the start to notice that I was quite a way from the front, and behind a rhino or two and some other fancy dressers. How were they in the 1:40-2hr pen Shocked

The gun eventually went off and I waited......and waited...and waited a bit more before we moved...a foot....then I waited and waited and moved a bit more. This kept on for about 5minutes before eventually I could start to walk freely for a bit. Then more waiting until after 15minutes I crossed the start line. I was cold, frustrated and not looking forward to 13 miles at this stage and was almost tempted to just turn around and go home, but there were 10000 people behind me so that wasnt an option Wink

Still struggled to get moving and was mounting curbs and zig zagging for the first 1 mile and still went through in 8mins. On target, but going too fast really as I must have already covered a mile and a half in ziog zagging. Mile 2 took 9:30 as I decided to just go with the flow and then mile 3 it opened up a bit and I got into pace. Another 8min mile and pow. my hammie tightened. Not great and with 10miles to go I knew then it wasnt going to be an enjoyable morning. The road switches upwards at about 4 miles and its a long drag where I struggled to hit 10min miles for the 5th and 6th miles and then I went through halfway in 1:01. Form here it was jsut a case of putting one foot in front of another,easier said than done. I was bored and hating every minute of it. The course was horrible and it wasnt until mile 10 that I got to Greenwich Park and it started to get a bit more pleasant for me. I wasnt running well but starting to enjoy it a little more and then its down through Greenwich and back to the dome. As I hit mile 12 I thought arr just 1 to go Ill up the pace but my legs had nothing in them. It was a tough last mile and a bit that took 10:45. I was going to sprint finish but couldnt even do that, and eventually crossed the line in 2:07:43, bored, tired, fed up, dehydrated and wanting to go home. That was next to impossible due to 17k others trying to do the same. Never will I run this again! Not fun at all. Oh and monday I woke up with a cold...wonder if thats due to a suppressed immune system or not Mad

OK so positives, I am in the Forestman. entry accepted and time to start the build to that, via The London Marathon. I got in Cool and fits in perfectly to enable me to get my run upto scratch, race there and then finish the prep for FM. The aim is to sideline cycling until mid jan when I get back from another month in Chile, but really work on the run. I need to do a lot of work here and its really holding me back now. So lots of running, fast, slow, medium, long, short, anything and varied. Cycling will be short sweet speed/turbo work. Swimming fits in nicely so no change there and I will go sub 70 for IM, cant see me improveing too much there but can make it easier, so its more about maintenance.

anyway as Im starting the prep now I will start blog more and monitor my progress. Weight loss was going ok...from 93kg on 16/08 to 90.6kg on 20/9.....but being ill this past week or so means I've done very little and eaten lots of cr@p...chocolate cures colds Ive heard Wink so lets hope Im not back to square one on Monday where I'm 38weeks from FM2011.

well done for London - you must be the only person so far I've heard getting in. I'm doing my first half so not too gutted.

Damm... That sounds like a very hard day at the office...Well done for getting though it.. You have to have the bad days so that you can really enjoy the good ones....Don't look back and keep her lit for London. Very Happy
