Moved to new continent Smile SunSunSun
Left family behind Sad Sad for now Please
New job Thumbs Up
Managed 4 running days in each of the last 2 weeks, despite the moving etc, so pleased with that - 40k last week and 44 this week just ended
It's been tough in the heat - I've managed the easy/steady stuff but anything at marathon pace and faster has been tough so I've adjusted the intensity with the coach.
We'll see how it goes.
Got a mate back home who is keen to come out for next year's Abu Dhabi Tri in March, so I'll have to get a bike out here and start riding. Failing that, I'll suggest we enter as a relay team
Went to Dubai over the weekend and managed some "extreme" golf - teeing off at 1:45 pm, more Sun
Had dinner with some mates and stayed over.

Phew!! Life has a funny habit of taking over. It has certainly done that of late.
So, what have I been up to? In no particular order I’ve:
• Done 3 weeks of running with my new coach (just started week 4)
• Had a week off work
• Got a new job

Yes, a new job!!!!! I’ll get to that.

Running
I’m trying to run 5 mornings a week. I’m at about 40/45 km per week and the coach has set a schedule that looks a bit like this: Monday – easy with some drills; Tuesday – steady state running; Weds – off; Thurs – hills or fartlek; Fri – easy; Sat – long; Sun – off.
So far, so good. The easy running is easy but I’m more intent on keeping up the enthusiasm/motivation and that’s there.
I won’t bore you with all the session details, but I will report on the coaching side of things.
All of this was leading up to a goal A race next Easter-time, probably Rotterdam marathon, but we’ll have to re-address thatgoal now!

Holiday
Had a lovely week in a rented cottage near Craven Arms in Ludlow. Small, recently refurb’d place that was beautiful. We pottered around all week, visiting kids farms and Nat Trust places and had a ball. Managed a couple of runs as well but missed the Thursday and Friday sessions.

Job
Money is an issue (ok, a problem) for us at the moment so when someone offers you almost double what you are on, tax-free, you have to think long and hard about it. Especially when you have just relocated back home after 5 years in Asia.
Maybe it’s “wander-lust” but when I was in Dubai for most of July I was put in touch with a company looking for construction lawyers. Had a great chat, which culminated in them offering me a senior role in their Abu Dhabi office. Thought long and hard, talked it over with the Mrs (who will stay in England for now) and decided to go for it.
Resigned on Friday, only have to work 2 weeks’ notice so leave for AD on Sunday 5 September - yikes!!!!!
Looking forward to it enormously from a professional viewpoint; daunted and a little scared from a personal viewpoint. Only time will tell…

Went to Old Trafford last Monday to watch a half-stuttering United comfortably beat a poor Newcastle but now will have to pass my season tickets back to my eldest son.

And finally, last week my beautiful daughter made her parents immensely proud by getting her required grades (and some) for her degree course in Sheffield – pre-medicine for 1 year then on to the medicine course.

Life is sweet at the moment.
