I was planning on doing the open water swim day in July but only if I feel I haven't had enough open water experience by then which is unlikely as I'm planning on going once a week or so when the weather improves and would've done three open water tris by then!

Don't you think £40 sounds like a lot? Depends how crowded it gets I guess. Are there any questions still to ask that we don't ask here and get answered?

Sue,
I went to the one in Bath last year, It was good fun and a good motivater. The weather was scorching and I got really sunburned. However I didnt learn anything race changing i just felt less intimidated about the event (face to the name etc)

The pool ession had too many peoplt to be of use, We were all in wetsuits and I ended up in a lane with 7 big men who just kicked me alot in their enthusiasm and raced at top speed duiring the wrm up so I ended up taging along at the back. The pool thing really got to me, I felt like I couldnt swim at all. Later on I spoke to a few other women who had felt the same.

I dont think that the open water practise or indeed simulating race conditions in training circumstances is necessarily useful. I did the london tri as my first open water and it was fine, just make sure your goggles are tight!

If you have any specific questions let me know

Ruth
ps I think if i had seen this forum before i wouldnt have gone on it, (the training dy)i simply didnt know anything about triahtlons and wanted to know the logistics etc

p.p.s ther is a photo of me in triahtlon220 (junes) at the day. i am in a white t shirt and you can just see my back.
Any of you been in 220?

I went to one 2 years ago at Bath Uni, and it was great fun.

In fact the website still has a photo of the beginners all lined up in the pool. Who's that unshaven lout in the middle? Why bless my soul, 'tis BB, plain as day! Cool

P.S. The only bad part was riding up to Bath University, up Whidcombe Hill. It's about 2k long and as steep as any hill I've ever done. I was so knackered after that, I had to take the run and bike sessions v.slowly. Wink

I cycled up that hill everyday for the summer months. On that training day I overtook people that had come in from other places and were pushing their bikes. That made me feel great!

Lol. I was discussing the hill on the day, with someone from a cycling club, and he was amazed I'd been able to do it without stopping. (It helped not knowing how long the hill was going to be...) He said he'd had to stop twice.
