Brutal Events are bringing back the Deca to the UK in the 10 x 1 format.
He or she who dares ...
It's pulling me in and TC is already on the Entry list. All other distances down to Double are also planned.
Venue is Dorney
Lake.

OMG, I've only gone and entered the Deca
Welcome any advice on how I can even contemplate training for this. Of course few will have any experience.
General advice on improving my bike would be helpful though as this is my primary focus for 2016.

Cut out the swim training for starters, that's cheating.

When I trained for the 5x1 I tried to cover iron distance each week as a steady week. So 2-3 miles swimming, 100-120 miles biking and 20-30 miles running. Sometimes the proportions were mixed up and bike heavy or run heavy but I was pretty consistent with my mileage. Very little of this was fast - just commuting and something long each weekend. I did lots of weeks with higher mileage but iron distance was my weekly goal.
Additionally in the last couple of months leading up to it I did a couple of 4 day training blocks. One where I biked 100 miles a day for 4 days and one where I did a couple of 100 mile rides and a couple of marathons.
That covered the fitness. The other 3 things I should have done were
1. Be very comfy on a TT bike. You can save lots of energy riding aero all the time
2. Be very happy eating on the bike. You can save loads of time by not stopping
3. Look after your feet for the run. Blisters can stop you dead. Learn what works for you to prevent blisters (vaseline on my whole foot is what works for me)

Isn't a pan flat, 36 lap bike course going to get a bit tedious after a while?

Brilliant advice. How long before your key race did you start this weekly target? My Deca is 15 months away and I am worried about burn out if I increase the pace too soon.
As for saving time on the bike, maybe cutting out my Faffing will help.

It has been on my mind, but I don't expect the opportunity to race a Deca will come around that often, so want to grab it now.
Clearly this will be more of a mental challenge than normal
I will need to come with ways to relieve the boredom. Maybe Claire will arrange for different entertainment each day. I remember the inaugural Outlaw race had a feed station with busty girls from a local bar (can't remember its name)

What hillwall said... Back to back 100's
I did a 10 day block before the AT deca .. Mixed up 100 mile bikes with 4k swims and 18-20 mile runs.
Preparation is everything...

How far out you start this depends on what you do currently. I suppose I started about 6 months out really concentrating on this although wasn't far off this on a normal week anyway. I did have plenty of other events to do in the meantime to keep me interested but personally I don't have a problem starting training for an event a year or more away. I think it depends on your own mentality. But definitely decide on some interim targets and try to hit those as well.
