Okay, I was the buddy runner of T_C as he heroically went on to win/smash records at the Brutal Double this weekend, here is my tuppence worth.

I had an Alpkit Gamma & T_C had a Petzl NAO, we both also had small led handheld torches.

We set off up Snowdon sometime between 1 & 2 in the morning it was - obviously, doh Rolling Eyes - dark, but clear. To start with, the headtorches were fine, we weren't moving all that fast. As we neared the second bridge things soon got very misty & the handhelds came out. As we descended - with T_C pushing hard to make up for a frankly sh1t swim - the Petzl NAO came in to it's own. My Gamma lit up the path adequately as far as I was concerned, but the NAO turned night into day & enabled us to really get a move on.

I've got a Led Lenser H7 at work which I use & don't rate it.

T_C had an Exposure Joystick of some sort - possibly the Mk7 - on the bike & it was very impressive in some truly horrendous pea-souper conditions between Beddgelert & Pen-y-Pas.

Anyone try attaching a torch to their waist? Talk of hand holding a torch so it's closer to the ground got me thinking...

I was thinking along the same lines. I have a GoPro chest mount somewhere and could modify to hold my MTB light for running through the winter

After a few years struggling around the local park in the winter with a simple Petzl I got an Alpkit on ttowel's recommendation. Quite a revelation in how much I could see, and I have no idea what these other, even better, headtorches must offer it seemed pretty good value to me.

+1 for the Alpkit Gamma2...based mainly on the recommendations of this forum. Price is great & should do me for the simple stuff I'll be doing.
Cheers
