Do they take things a bit more seriously on the continent?

Put my name down for this then checked last year's results for M40-44 and the results are disturbingly quick, my 5:59 at Staffs put me just above middle but there has me nearly last...

<edit>
Should learn to pause before posting: There is no swim leg recorded, doh.

Despite your edit I'll respond.

The french take the actual sport and club interaction of triathlon far less seriously - it's great fun and really family orientated.

However, the level at races is high.

I can't be bothered with tri in UK - I don't like the attitude - yet, the few races I've done in the UK I was always finished in the top half. I loved my 5 years of tri in France and always finished distinctly in the bottom half and mostly in the bottom quarter.

Aix is a great race - have fun!

Cheers - I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it won't be too hot and windy.

Any tips on accommodation? Apparently there's a coach out from the centre of town that takes to tonthe transition areas, so I'll just aim for a relatively central hotel for the family.

We had 2 cars between us so didn't use the buses. Stayed in a campsite relatively close to the finish area.

Would seem any central hotel is a good option.

Considering doing this again for the 3rd time as part as build up to other events in the year. Podium twice previously. Great course. The swim is/was waved starts, bike very scenic a couple of good hills & generally rolling, run through town & in the park. I would recommend a ride on the cse or at least drive it first. There are a couple of downhills which could catch you out! It became a duathlon last year due to cold water. iM juggle the dates in relation to Nice & Vichy to try & get people to do those events.
