Just sanity checking with you most knowledgeable folks.

Got an indoor rower which seems like a good tool for training (Kettler Axos). It's got a calorie counter which I am a bit dubious about.

My various Garmin's seem to think that a 10k run in 50 mins or so is about 1000kcal, and to burn an equivalent 1000kcal on the bike it takes about 1h20m or so (25-ish miles). Going by feel I can see how those correlate.

But the rower's built in measurement thinks that I can burn 1000kcal in 25 minutes? I mean, sure, it feels hard at the end of those 25 mins but it doesn't feel like run/bike equivalent.

Is it over-reading, or is it because the actual workout is spread across more muscle groups? I can feel it works legs, core and arms so is it possibly the joined effort of those that make up for it?

Calorie burn is just guesstimate anyway. I don't see a 10k run as being 1000Kcal, I just did a 5k and Garmin Connect says it's 350Kcal but does depend how big and how fit you are.

As regards running, it's often postulated that 100 Kcal/mile is used.
