After a recent ECG when I was feeling ill at the start of the year I was referred for a 24 hour ECG just to make sure some very minor usual activity of the ECG (since not present on subsequent ECG's) is hopefully no concern.
I am due to have the 24 hour ECG installed next Wednesday but also the same day is the first of our summer league local road racing. I am due to do London Marathon on the following Sunday so I certainly wont be racing at it but I do intend to do the run as an easy run as I like to take part even if im not being competitive with it being a team competition.
I've never had a 24 hour ecg but I know roughly what it entails with regards to a set of monitor leads attached to what looks like an old Walkman, so my question is two fold:
1. Is it ok to exercise whilst having the 24 hour ecg. My logic tells me it is better if anything as then at least it gives the 24 window a view of what my typical day entails where as a day off would actually be less representative!
2. Is it practical to run whilst having a 24 hour ECG. I can see why you would easily be able to do a turbo session but running obviously is a bit more 'jiggly'. Does anyone have any input?

I volunteered for a study a few years ago and had a 24 hour ECG. They positively encouraged going for a run as they wanted to see how the heart was functioning during exercise. As far as I recall it wasn't very "jiggly", I don't remember it being a problem at all.
I've had loads of 24 and 48 hour ECGs. It's fine but you will need to put the monitor in a bum bag of some description to cope with the bouncing movement.
If you ask them to give you a report you may get some free info on max and resting HRs.
