Seems a bit ironic to survive years at the top of one of the most dangerous sports/pastimes going, and then get killed when you are out on a cycle ride. Not totally clear what the circumstances are, if he was wearing a helmet etc., but most reports say the car knocked him off, driver not intoxicated.

Shame though, good rider, worked hard, all-round nice guy.

Julia Viellehner also killed in Rimini in a bike accident...life sucks...

Very sad. Long-standing member of the paddock, really well regarded racer, killed whilst out training on bicycle. From the photos of car and smashed bike frame it looked like a head-on collision and he succumbed to head and chest injuries. RIP #69
