Our club swim on Tuesday was endless 100 repeats. I went out hard and wanted to see how long I could hold the same pace before blowing up. I find my with my swimming, my mental blocks are often the limiter so I wanted to really push myself.

Managed 14.5 x 100 at 1:10 pace before I died and had to drop it down to 1:15s.

45 seconds seconds rest between reps, so it's quite a lot of recovery, but feel happy I managed to hit so many before the inevitable happened

Nice work!

I love 100m sets - anymore and I lose count any less and I don't feel I get any benefit. My favourite is 100s off 1:20 trying to hold 1:15s - only tend to get about 10 in before people bow out.

Only doing one session a week at the moment and it's focused around sprinting which is not ideal for Ironman - hoping to get another session in there without impacting on my cycling.

Stopped at an olympique piscine in Dijon yesterday and did some 200s - wow, a 50m pool is soooo much better than 25. Must try to get over to Crystal Palace when I'm home.

Stratford is really good too. Swimming in the Olympic pool for the same price as my local south London leisure centre is pretty cool.
I'd also recommend Tooting (100yds) and Brockwell (50m) lidos if you want to get the OW feel in wetsuit, with the structure of lane swimming.

Crystal Palace has a certain meaning for me as my dad taught me to swim here, I had a few diving classes there with school and later I failed the test to become a life guard(!) - I need an excuse to go back Smile

I wasn't happy with my 36mins for the 1900 yesterday and Watch said I'd done 2285 so stopped at the same pool today on my way home. My head is still a little spaced and I am sleepy but some of the times aren't making sense to me.

3900m as

350m FC WU ...14 minutes ?! With no breaks.

3200m 1hr9m
Checkpoint at 1600m was 35 mins and 34 mins for the next 1600m that's ~2:07 pace. So I'm holding a solid pace, which is something. Sure I'm tired but I felt strong and moving well through the water.

350m WD 5.5mins with 10s rest
50m Breast 100m PB (easy) 100m Breast 100m PB (easy)

I'm thinking a flaw has crept into my stroke so I'll try to get someone to video me, or find a swim coach at Palace

Bad in my case....

However broke my fastest ever 1900m straight FC in just over 36 mins this morning

Came back with my trusty pull buoy and took three mins off that just to make sure it wasnt a fluke.
I'm a poor swimmer compared to my bike and run but at 48 to PB in anything is pleasing.

Ran out of time today, so decided to do a 1900m TT with a pull buoy instead of an easy 3000m. Surprised that it wasn't faster than my OW races pretty much the same.

1900m
Pull buoy, 25m pool - 35:54
Exmoor 70.3 - 35:36
Pays D'Aix - 36:19

A few minutes off last year, but nothing to worry about - I still feel fine after a long swim.

Then I saw my times on swim.com had registered a bunch of personal records over the last couple of months:

50m 00:29.7
100m 01:25.1
200m 02:46.2
400m 07:21.9
800m 14:55.7
1500m 27:40.5
1900m 35:54

I'm pretty sure if I put those on a graph they won't make sense. 50m in 29 seconds? I don't think so. I think by best 25m is 18-19 seconds.

Also my stroke rate is recorded as 21 per minute, which seems slower than I'd imagined.

Still, I'm fairly confident I won't have a disaster at Bolton, maybe a few minutes slower than last years 1hr13 Smile

I'd take a guess that the 100 and 200 times aren't correct too. You can't have a 2:46 200 time and 'only' a 1:25 100. Plus if you can do a 1:25 100 your 400 time would be under 7 minutes.

Yeah, think you're right. Maybe I'll take some time over summer to look at these.

I've downloaded a haptic metronome for my Apple Watch, going to try the swimsmooth ramp test before club swim tonight. 60 Bpm rising every 3 beats to 80bpm. About 7x50m so nothing onerous.

I did the Derwent 1 mile swim today, first time in my wetsuit since Barcelona and longest I've swam since then as well, in fact I've probably done less than 40 miles in total since and about 10 since February.

was never going to go well and worse than I'd thought, 34:20, although that included about 1 minute of comedy trying to get out of the lake with all the stones at the bottom near the exit.

Bit of work to do, only ran about 7k in the last 7 weeks so that is going to be fun as well if my injuries ever heal.
