Anyone else in for "The largest triathlon in the world" this weekend?

I entered it by mistake this year Rolling Eyes wanted to do the vitality event in Hyde Park but got in a light-night wine induced mix up.

I am in the sub 2:30 Olympic wave, starting at 9:10 I think.

I'm doing it in the mixed wave, along with a load of first timers I talked into it over Christmas, some of them have trained properly, some of them might struggle a bit with the swim.

New bike course this year, as far as I can tell it still goes through the Limehouse link tunnel, so the fast bit is still there.

So, how did you and they get on? I had a pretty decent race, waiting on results to properly see splits now.

We all finished Smile First timers did really well, have caught the bug and want to go back next year.

I did alright, bit of a slow swim, bike course was quite twisty turney, and not as fast as normal, I then blew up a bit on the run due to 2 or 3 schoolboy nutrition errors.

All in all a good day Very Happy

I think the results, with splits are up now.

How did you get on?

Don't be ridiculous! I'd need to learn how to swim properly first haha.

I really liked the bike course. I thought it was a good mix of technical bits, some lumps and fast parts. Wasn't a huge fan of the run course, the floor in the Excel was very slippery and it was pretty narrow for overtaking in a lot of parts.

We drove there and the diversion signs to help you find the parking were pretty terrible too. No signs or marshals on quite a lot of the roundabouts, and the trail of directions seemed to disappear quite often.

I struggled quite a bit on the run, pushed the bike harder than I usually do.

Seems like quite a similar performance to you, I think the swim was a touch long.

Who's in for this year?

It'll be my first olympic distance race and aiming for (what some of you would consider a pretty lowly) 2h40m finish time. Got the family coming with me to watch too. I'm in the 8.40am male only wave.

I'm quite excited about it. Not necessarily the draft fest bike but the event as a whole should be good.

Im meant to be doing the weekend warrior but with burstitis of the shoulder still causing massive problems I'm not sure I will race. May do the first sprint saturday and see how it goes but getting into a wetsuit at speed might not be possible to get through multiple races!

How did that go? The weekend warrior stuff looks tough.

I really enjoyed the event except for the stairs in T1 and the ramp on the run.

Beat my stretch target by a few minutes coming in at 2:32:19 for the Oly distance.
