I'm struggling to understand what the real benefits of this phone are. From what I've read/seen you get:

- New facial recognition as means of opening the phone
- Animojis that track your facial movements. WTaF is the benefit of this beyond the first five minutes of fun
- More screen real estate. Yay.

I would guess it's got some upgraded camera gubbins etc, but not sure that really warrants the cost.

And to think I used to be an apple fan boy. Bring back Steve Jobs!

Sad times.

I can see some reasons to upgrade from a 7 (which I have) to an 8 but I fail to see that going to an X is worth the extra as the add on for the X have little value for me.

and one ? - this facial recognition thing - how does that work for those people who wear a hijab? would they be able to unlock their phone in public by removing it and then breaking some local muslim law??

Never 'got' the phone bug most have. Phones make calls, etc. Ok I am not quite that bad I do use a family castoff smartphone, and my kids are all into the latest and 'best', but come on it's a phone.

It's a device that enables Microsoft to call me relentlessly telling me that I have a security flaw on my computer, or some woman telling me that I have been in an accident that isn't my fault.

Besides how secure is facial recognition?

1. Would it work with a photo? You phone gets nicked and someone accesses you on Facebook of whatever and uses the photos.
2. Could umpteen security services unlock it remotely by using a cctv image?

Not that it really matters, but to me the big advantage here is to security services gaining more photos of people globally (which I hope they use wisely), and to them potentially being able to send images to the phone to have another tool to unlock it while it is in your pocket.

Someone please tell me how facial recognition actually helps a user? What if you were mugged and beat up and needed to make an emergency call (assuming you still had the phone obviously) would it allow you access?

About the only advantage I can see of one day getting an iPhone (any iPhone) is that my phone and iPad would then be more seamless.

Phones aimed at kids and brand-addicted fools.

I have a 7 and Probably only use 25% of its capability.
My business partner has a 7, iPad, iMac, iwatch and whatever else you can get but he has no idea how to use them properly. These are the mugs they are aimed at.

You say that, but if sloggers posts included his animoji I bet the hit count would go up.

Tel him to drop in at Apple, regent street - they run free training on how to use apps and devices daily.

I don't know about animoji but I was thinking of changing my picture from maat ankh re (balance in life from the source is one translation) to (following PaulLs picture tutorial) an Einstein head attached to a straight jacketed body dancing on a picture of the globe Razz

That would definitely encourage us to take your um theories more seriously.

On another note, there a bloke on the Mensa LinkedIn group that thinks he's cracked FtL travel and disproved the Big Bang...because he believes in a subjective universe. David Rowland. Complete fruit cake, with added macadamias. You might like him.

Not tempted by the X at that price, however, the watch seems to be moving in the right direction from a sport point of view.

Must admit, we're Apple fans in our house, we do have a lot of their products. Everything just "works" and seems so much less hassle than Windows.

We did buy an HP laptop not that long ago, it stopped working and was returned for a full refund after 24 hours.

Each to their own.

maybe Shocked

How many times has science only advanced after weirdos of the day said things others laughed at?

Testing, testing, testing, professional scepticism, and not being afraid to think differently are the keys.
