Anyone know much about it?
My son went to another physio this morning, the NHS appointed one this time, they have diagnosed him with Severs disease, flat feet and over pronation.
Want him to stretch, take warm baths, wear heel gel stickers, and carry on with sport. He has an appointment to see a podiatrist later.
Wiki tells me Severs is a 2-8week thing, but he's been struggling for 15months.

It can certainly go on for much longer than 2-8 weeks. My daughter had it this year for a few months and only settled down after a bit of time off dancing. She is back dancing again as well as other activities/sports and is pain free. I had her stretching, icing immediately after sport/dancing and some gentle massage.
She's at the young end of getting this so it is something we will have to keep an eye on over the next few years.

My son used to do gymnastics and suffered from it. His coach told us to alternate between soaking his foot in very warm water for a couple of minutes followed by placing ice wrapped in a tea towel on his heels (the problem area). This did seem to help but problem persisted for at least 6 months. It's essentially growing pains I seem to recall.

He's only doing school sports now, PE and rugby I think which he hasn't been running at for a year. So the "he'll grow out of it" has worn a bit thin.
His current school shoes are awful, clumping around, so i need to replace those.
Looking to get him some Asics GT 2000 for non-school days, if I can get the size.
Playing tennis with him tomorrow.

"Studded, I think" is the best I can get from him.

From my experience with coaching Tristars, severs can last a lot longer than 8 weeks.
They do grow out of it though.

He still won't do any stretching or exercising - if that's really is the remedy it's going to last forever!
He saw the podiatrist.
The podiatrist didn't examine his feet. He castigated my son for not learning Portuguese and asked him what shoe size he wears.
My son said I don't know, 3 or 4 or 5.
We'll get you size four then - says the podiatrist, and fills out a form to place the order.
End appointment.

Sounds like the only cure is to learn Portuguese.
Exercise may be an option, though my experience is that running is a no-no. C
Cycling works ok.

Hi,
Yes, I found out that it is not chronic and it can be treated. But I'm just wondering if your kid is still playing his sport while he's going into physical therapy. Maybe that's why you haven't been seeing any progress.

My lads had severs since u10s rugby. Still has issues 2 years later. Does run but really hurts when he doesnt stretch a lot. Has really impacted his level of sporting activities.

Sounds similar to mine then He was a confident runner and swimmer three years ago, it's blown all his confidence out of the water.
My boy has been wearing heal inserts for a week and a half. Says they help a bit, but keep slipping forward.
They don't fit in his rugby shoes.
