anyone any idea how to get more relevant videos to apppear in my recommendations?
Their algorithms are rubbish in giving me videos I want to see.
Specifically is there any way to..
1. Only get newish recommendations?
2. When you watch one type of video once out of curiosity, not then getting bombarded with more of the same?
3. When you refresh the recommendations stopping the same videos all to often reappearing...hint.. I looked and refreshed, so don’t want to watch them.
Algorithms are supposed to ‘know me’ well this for months now, is ‘irrritating me’. I did email YouTube months ago asking for a more varied selection.
Or do I just have to conclude that YouTube programmers don’t have a clue about how to maximise my contact time?

Go to your viewing history and delete the dodgy videos from your history. Or stop watching dodgy videos.

Dodgy videos add spice to life
Sadly that isn’t the problem (he says having recently watched a documentary on escorts....I feel sorry for the poor blokes who think that they have found love!).
Don’t really want to delete my history in case I want to rewatch those videos. Basically globetrotting videos, but there are only so many times you can watch ten year old videos of a specific hotel. Now a recent one, that is a different kettle of fish.
And just because I like 1950s/60s rock and roll/swing/Lindy dancing et all, does not mean that I like line or square dancing. And if I go looking for Louanne videos (French singer and actrice) does not mean that I want to see whatever her name is who keeps popping up now (zaz?) not my type of voice. If I don’t watch something, don’t keep throwing it back up to me as if to say, “up yours we will wear you down until you watch this”!
Is it really too much to ask for a varied selection of newish videos for me to take a chance with? I mean I have a wide interest base.
Think of all the lost advertising revenue.
First world problems I know.

You tube, amongst other well known social media platforms, have an active philosophy that results in them providing you with what they want you to view and/or conforms to their ideologies/income streams...
This includes having algorithms to feed videos accordingly and a manual deselection team to remove the videos they don't want people to view...
interesting times...

Sloggers - I think the problem may be that they do know you.

One option, if this works for you, is you can download the videos and save them IIRC as mp4's or AVI's. There are various free, online services where you just copy and paste the link of the video and they then convert it for you to download. For some very clever reason, the downloads don't contain adverts (or so it generally seems).
So practically you could do this before the training session (and you also don't need the connection then, either, where you're training if that's ever an issue). Was always useful for me in the garage where wifi was a bit iffy.

of course, it is the advert that is paying for the platform....
wasn't there a you tubby url that allowed a user to circumvent the adverts?

Instead of youtube.com..... edit the address to yout.com i.e. remove the ube bit of the address. thats a simple downloader facility - it will strip out the audio if you want just the music track.

Having just refreshed youtube, while I can understand why they are recommending what they are recommending, I am bored with their offerings, as explained above.
Obviously I can easily search, but with technology today it would be nice if they could actually recommend stuff, predictively, that I may want to watch. Sometimes it does seem to do this, but they seem to get it mostly wrong.
I give you that I will be an outlying customer as I use the videos to help train myself (don’t ask if you don’t want a boring explanation about knowing yourself better), whereas most people probably just watch for fun.
Makes me wonder how advanced these algorithms actually are, or whether Ejc is correct. Sloggers shudders at the thought.

If it's on a laptop use an adblocker extension in your browser.
