Hi

I'm an overweight woman age 43...

I have a history of HM running and 60 mile cycles but swimming is what i will start with this time around (meaning i've had a long break)

Advice needed:

From absolute couch and taking into perspective that I will never be more than a very basic level athlete - I have been slower at increasing running when i was new to it by about factor 3 or 4

Is it a realistic goal

and i need a goal

to aim for a May Supersprint, and an August Sprint

followed by an Olympic autumn 2019?

please answer if you understand that I am not fast and will struggle

some of my best

HM time 2.45 seven years ago ( 4 in a year )
top speed running 7 mi in 77 minutes
swimming breast stroke 1 mile 2 hrs 19 yrs ago for a few weeks
and 60 mile night ride London to Brighton 2014 7.45 hrs (this was not a race)
top speed on a bike 12.5 minute
walking 20,000 on a good day currently 8,000 - 12,000 Im in physio for ankle sprain injury.

Hi Celia and welcome.

Your targets are fine and I am sure you can do it. Basic advice is that if you can do the three distances individually you will be able to string them together on the day ok. If you are not confident with your swimming, then getting along to a tri club with a swim coaching set up will help enormously. Where abouts are you as peeps on here could probably recommend a good club local to you.

Best of luck and let us know how you are getting on. 👍

Thanks Wheezy!

The swimming will be most difficult, yes... I enjoyed today's swim.
I am in Plymouth and really would love to find others to swim with... IF i look at my Facebook there might be a swim club I can get to once a week, but will spend the next few weeks getting to 100m straight -

I will be taking it easy....

how much do you guys focus on speed? and competition? I feel i just want to take part... i have no illusions of 70.3 this time...

I have no wish to time out all my schedules for a 6 week plan just now
I will keep to one workout ahead promises and will ask for help with anything basic i need help with

I will not forget my mum saying that when she rode a bike in Germany - all she did was get on the bike and ride.

that is sticking for me

I've done the whole kit thing and I'm really not interested.

I don't enjoy looking at pace because my run never sped up and I hope that is a maintainable goal for a new triathlete.

Sure i push myself similar to anyone else...
but I just want to do the distances and have fun

+1

As said, try each distance and see if you can do them individually. If so then the race day atmosphere will take care of the rest and you'll easily do them all in a row.
