Vandalism? Given the burnt out car in one of the pictures it looks like a joyrider messing about in the snow and losing control rather than a deliberate act of destruction. Still criminal.

I remember going there to watch the RAC rally @1989/90ish and being told the insurance for the cars to go over the bridge was enormous because of the repair cost if they hit it.

I think they stopped going for that reason at some point, although it's completely held in Wales these days.

Based on 30 years of inflation that ain't going to be cheap and will never be original again. All for some chav to get his kicks.

they've quoted 350k but, as you say, it'll never be original...

Im a local lad and regularly run over it on the way to parkrun. Downright despicable and a few days later there was an arson attack on one of the buildings at Clumber with people inside it. On the plus side someone has been arrested in connection but this isn't going to fix it unfortunately:(

i used to be local. my niece used to work on the estate.
i'm normally immune to such things but that is a bit shocking. I guess I knew that particular bridge, had the geese taking off to go to migration from the lake over my head with the kids next to me, etc etc.
i think the original building stopped being inhabited due to fire sevreal decades back?

was that any reason why the qualifier was cancelled at the weekend? i'd assumed that was just because of the weather.

yes mostly weather I believe. The bridge was re-opened to pedestrians and cyclists with temporary fencing but then shut again when the high-winds came
