Ughhh,
I do a lot of diving on holiday and often plan to run the day before with little idea it could cause issues. Nothing in any of the training to suggest this is the case.
Fortunately I'm too lazy on holiday and rarely carry out my planned runs, but still! I didn't need another reason not to run!

40 minute run causing rhabdo? In someone who's apparently "super-fit"?
Although yeah nothing to suggest from that article that she was especially fit, or that underlying fitness changes anything.

Whilst terribly sad I simply don't believe dehydration can cause a diving accident (not just an accident, but death)
I used to dive a fair amount in my 20s and partying hard (in hot locations, Tanzania, Thailand, Philippines etc.) and diving early the next day was bar for the course. I even remember once being told you can puke through a regulator (no, I didn't try it, and no I'm not sure you can - but it's indicative of a lot of dive culture).
So there are a lot of dehydrated divers out there, a lot of the time.
(not to disparage the diving world, a lot of people take it very seriously as well)

Not really, A lot of people suffer Nausea when on the sea (Sea Sickness) and this causes people to vomit a lot without drinking hard the night before!
I have never tried regulator vomiting either, I don't get Sea Sickness and don't drink heavily before diving.
I have seen it done though on a couple of occasions. It is a really good Fish attracter! My best man did it on my Stag do...that was Drink related.
Not that I doubt there are large parts of the diving community that are heavy drinkers, I have seen plenty of evidence of that, like one of my last dives where, during the briefing, the instructor had that certain sweet sickly smell that accompanies a night on the liquor! And heard plenty of anecdotal evidence from other instructors. Certainly in the hot party destinations!
So yeah a day drinking heavily in the hot sun is going to leave you far far more dehydrated than a 40 min run! And many people dive every day in that state. with relatively few fatalities really.

This is a fact.
I was diving many years ago off Salcombe with one of my oldest mates. The little boat was being thrown about in very rough seas and the poor b*gger suffered serious sea-sickness.
Underwater, it continued... and he demonstrated in graphic detail how a regulator can cope with.... ok I won't elaborate... but it's a remarkable piece of engineering.
