Quite possibly - missed doing it this year...

I’m tempted.
Travel and accommodation seems to be relatively cheap, it’s starting the training cycle in November that could be tricky.

The official video would have been shown at the awards dinner last night, so they'll probably release it on the IM Lanza Facebook page today |
The race video is on the IM Lanza Facebook and YouTube pages now

Well done everyone, I had a DNF I dropped a chain at the top of fire mountain, rolling off the bike, and pulling a wire out of my di2, had to roll down fire mountain too the bike mechanic who replaced the chain, and like a lunatic I rode back up fire mountain, but couldn’t change gear on the aero bars, got to teguise and bailed,
Lanzarote just spites you out, may go back next year

Cheers!
The marshalls at the start must be quick on their toes to avoid getting dragged out to sea...looks fun.

Thanks. I watched it yesterday morning and they've made the swim look so much scarier than ever.

i think having the AWA abehind the PRO athletes is not helping with the carnage caused by bottle neck on first turn,
But honestly i think it SHOULD stay a mass start it what its all part of the event

They did make a point at the briefing about reminding the AWAs that they didn't have to start at the front and they should stand at an appropriate place in the chute for their swim speed
I definitely agree that the swim should be a massed start. I didn't find it was too bad this year. I stayed pretty wide on the first half lap and was able to comfortably swim by the rope on the 2nd lap.
Conditions were a bit odd this year. The tide was obviously out, so you had to go further out than usual before you reached water that you could actually swim in. It was a lot faster on the way out than on the return. My Garmin gave me 500m splits 15 seconds per 100m slower on the return leg than on the way out

I started right in middle of AWA group and just found it congested up to first buoy and a little bit further along back straight, then congestion eased as everyone got a little more spread out.

Interesting that the bike this year was slower than average. Before the race the consensus seemed to be that it would be slightly quicker.
2015 was exceptionally windy, so no surprise that was slower, but the bike leg this year did feel like more of a slog than in previous years. It'll be interesting to see how much of that is because the new course is intrinsically slower and how much was the conditions on the day. The wind was there from the start this year and it seemed to be coming from the NW rather than the NE. It felt like a headwind or a crosswind for the whole day.
I think the new course loads more of the climbing towards the back end of the course, so maybe more climbing with tired legs.
