%^&%, no?
(Edit: Fantastic, that is actually Scun-thorpe...! )
Also, please note the details:
Quote: | BUYERS PREMIUM: The successful bidder will pay 15% plus VAT Buyers Premium in addition to the Hammer Price.
VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT) will be charged at 20% on both the hammer price and the Buyers Premium. |
That amounts to 38% up on the price you are seeing.

Some really rather confusing "bundles".
Look cleats bundled with SPD.
Caliper brake pads bundled with disc brake mount adapters.
A random selection of different hangers, with a Garmin virb helmet mount.
That said, there are a couple of things showing as really rather cheap. Can't imagine it will stay at this price, but a Lazer Wasp Air helmet is only a tenner at the moment.

THe wasp helmet caught my attention and some of the bikes are a good price but I didn’t see all the added fees - my bad - as soon as I realised it was collect only Inwas out.
%^&% / Sunderland, well I have no idea where either of them are so it’s all the same to me . Are they near Winchester? I’ve always wondered where Winchester is, like some mythical city like Avalon I’m not sure it really exists outside our minds.

Probably read it wrong or missed something but are they not double tapping the VAT there? Seems to be hammer price + VAT, then 15% + VAT. Unless the commission is on the hammer prize before VAT?

Looking at the brands on the link I think this is the lower value stock from the Bristol Tri shop which went bang about 8 weeks ago.
Seems ridiculous that its all been shipped up to Sunderland to be sold.
Also seems like they have just taken the boxes of bits and shoved a lot number on them

Had not seen that. I was on their race team for this season and the closure seemed to come out of the blue

With the contents of a now defunct bike shop sitting in the corner of my dining room, I get shivers looking through this lot. My partner paid for all his stock so at least we own it and recover the money. These guys must be drowning debt and praying this stock sells.
The way in which the supplier system works for independent shops is what is killing the market and it does not allow anything to survive.
At least in this case the stock is recoverable and sellable. We know of a bike shop that just ordered off the supplier, had everything on credit, the shop closed a week later and no sign of the stock. All accounts wrapped up with £100k not recovered. Doesn't help the honest independents.

So bike suppliers don't work on a sale or return basis and a number of suppliers specify a minimum amount of items that you have to by. Look, for example, make you commit to buying 6 complete bikes for 3 years. Therefore bikes are bought at the start of the new bike year (september) on a forecast of sales, and you have to sink the cash and pray they sell. Or absorb the hit when you have to put everything on sale.
The next complication is managing the invoicing. I never fully understood it, but as far as I understood, it was mostly set up through B2B online accounts. So all orders were managed through online stores with the supplier and you ordered as needed (either single items or min required), and it was shipped as soon as available but your account wasn't debited straight away. It depended on the item. If it was in stock and ready to be shipped it was debited and shipped, other items waited for stock and debited once shipped, but you didn't know when that would happen. Then some items, particularly bikes, were on 60 day payment terms. So unless you had a sh1t hot accountant and were amazing with paperwork, it was really difficult to manage.
Additionally with the online supplier system, if you were small (low turnover, small B2B account) and needed to get individual items for a customer requirement you were charged shipping and admin fees. It was just cheaper to order from Wiggle and get it into the store. But then you annoy your supplier, if they find out.
And you can't just have one supplier because not all supply all, so you have to go through this process with multiple suppliers etc. And then the suppliers set up their own online, direct to public, retail stores and you're just f&$ked.
I'm sure someone will come along and correct me on a number of items but it was a very onerous system for small stores with one person. You'll find bike maintenance only places do it because then they don't need a supplier and just order parts of Wiggle and individual ad-hoc items don't kill them off.

Also worth noting that the price small businesses can buy from disties for is higher than the selling price on the Wiggle/CRC website due to their volume discounts.
Seems if you want run an LBS these days, buy from Wiggle/CRC on order and ignore all B2B disties.
I can see why workshop-only shops are more and more common.

Basically just due to the fact they don't need to use a distributor, they go straight to the manufacturer.
