at least John Levison at Tri247 has made a very decent level headed statement about it on the website

https://tri247.com/triathlon-news/event-news/ironman-uk-2018-late-changes

no doubt the IMJ people will be after his head now.... Wink

I think I need to ask if they will be reducing the Cut-Off times accordingly....

I made a comment that if the swim was cut short by a similar percentage there wouldn't be this amount of bleating

Also chucked in a separate comment about Ironsheep and bragging.

He's right. Trouble with most people is they have no clue what goes in to organising an event. I am sure was well that the announcement being so close is because they have been trying hard to find a solution or hope the problem goes away.

We had something similar local to us. It snowed on the day of a half marathon. Everyone went in to meltdown. The organisers said the race would be rescheduled, or you could have a refund - 5 admin, or a transfer to next years race. This wasn't good enough and all the bar-room barristers with the fisher price law books started yelling breach of contract and compensation. @*&$.

I am sure 95% of people are annoyed that they can't call themselves an "Ironman". People like that moron Iron Rookie who would have reached level 10 or whatever

I expect none of them had actually read the 'contract' Rolling Eyes Covering things like changes or cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances like weather or on H&S grounds is bread-and-butter stuff.

some of the comments about "not being an Ironman" are getting a bit nasty now. I think that the admins have done another purge, banning people

This Ryan Rookie guy does talk some sense, hope he has not been banned

Given the level of meltdown following a 17 mile course shortening, What will happen if the swim is cancelled

That's an issue I have with the way the sport has gone; Standard/Oly races have withered on the vine, as did the O3/Nice distance long ago (4/120/30)...all because they want to dumb down the swimming so more people will do it. IM is already short-changing on the swim tbh. The ITU distances are a lot more equitable - which is surely the point of a 3 discipline sport!

Now the sport seems to consist mainly of Sprints and straight to HIM/IM. I haven't done an Oly for 4 years, they're so thin on the ground. That said, I see Lake 32 has one at the end of the summer that I fancy. Original Nice dist would be cool too (O3).

Isn't ITU Long course a 4K swim and shorter bike/run?

As for to availability of Olympic Distance, I tend to agree. Lots of sprints aimed at first timers and big brand (not just IM) Half distance races, but Oly seems to be neglected.

PRICE PER MILE.

Oly tris are ridiculously expensive in comparison to a HIM.
Most HIMs, you can rob a few new bottles and stuff your shorts full of a dozen gels at the last aid station.

Olys barely have that level of freebies.

They just appear to be poor value.
In addition to being hardAF.

Like most 'triafletes' you just need to stop paying lip-service to swimming Very Happy
