It might be Strava doing the power from my current weight? |
Strava estimated Power is FUBAR. Is that where you got the 195?
Did you use aero helmet/disc?

aero helmet, no disc (I think I used a disc in 2011, didn't like it).
82/101 combo other years.
agree that Strava estimated power isn't great - but it's decent for me, and I have access to it from 2011 to present (my old garmin Training centre records died with an old laptop, other websites have come and gone, etc etc)

You live in Knutsford; shouldn't you have an SRM?

I've posted previously about using free software to control your smart trainer rather than having to pay any kind of subscription.
One of those was Bkool which a fairly decent free option where you could ride all of the routes but only in a 2D map view, not with video or 3D graphics.
Unfortunately Bkool have now removed most of the free functionality and you can only ride routes that are already live, I.E. someone else has already started them and you can join that route.
This pretty much kills it for me as an option as it's nowhere near as popular as Zwift so the selection of live routes at any given time is very limited.
There's still VeloReality or Golden Cheetah for interval type sessions (TrainerRoad style) but nothing with real routes now as far as I'm aware.

Sorry for hijacking a zwift bike thread but hope you can help with your collective experience.
I have got hold of a footpod mainly for my wife to run on a treadmill (she isnt comfortable with running on her own in the dark after work when I am looking after our little boy) and after one run the pod is now flashing red which, as far as the internet tells me, means there is a battery issue. It was also a total pig to connect initially and had frequent drop outs (14 in 5k) which were not avg corrected and simply look liks gaps or stops in the run. Also the run was approx 2kmh slower than the calibrated treadmill was suggesting.
I really want this to work for her but am struggling to figure out the gremlins right now, any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi All, thought I’d let you know about my Zwift experience and what its done for me. Used to be prolific poster on tritalk. Still pop in occasionally, but less time these days and mainly on FB.
I used to be good IM standard (did a DIM), and then went into Ultra running from c.2011-2015. Injuries, illness, baby, house moves since then have put competitive racing/train8ng on hold.
I’m 45 now but competitiveness stull there and I start each year hop8ng to get my old form back.
Anyway - Zwift! Up to last summer biking non existent. No time and Shropshire roads awful. Muddy, pot-holed hills. I was given a TT bike, already had a Wahoo Snap smart trainer, and a friend whod been on Zwift since beginning. So set myself up in the garage and gave it a go.
I built up to 100-150miles/week from September and apart from a few test runs of my two bikes I’ve spent all my time in the conservatory. Yep! Ive gone from no cycling to 150miles/week on the turbo alone 🤣

I tried group rides early on, but much prefer going straight into the races. Partic love the stages as you contribute to overall table and get to know names. Joined a club end year so theres a good banter and team element now. I prob average 2 races every 3 days with another personal training session.
As for improvement in fitness:
A few years back I did a lab test for beet and choc and base had me down in 230s for FTP. Off no cycling that was fine. Last summer a few weeks into Zwift I was around 265. Zwift has recorded a rise as Ive gone through the year and last one took me to 319w FTP. At 67kg thats almost 5wkg.
Im currently in Lanza where Ive come for 1-3 weeks training in Jan several times before. First 1-2hr on each ride is a dream and im flyin* past pople on climbs. I struggle past 3hr but then i never go beyond 2hr on zwift so thats to be expected.
My best IM bike was 4:46 at Roth 09. Dont think I could ever equal that again, but Infeel at 45yo I can smash up anything to 90km, PB time.

Did the 2-lap London hilly race again yesterday morning, better result of 15th/61, and I managed to stay with the front group until Box Hill this time. Once the climb started I inevitably just ended-up n my own, literally TTing the rest of the race! Av power was 246w, with 20 min best of 264w within a 50 min race, which augers well as my 'current' FTP is 266, so I reckon a CP20 would yield a slight improvement.
Again, no silly wattages, winner around 4.4w/kg average. Although at one point, I overtook a guy on Box Hill, he disappears off the rankings, then next thing I know, he's 45sec up on me

Cycling Australia have copped a bit of flak over giving out a national jersey to the winner of theirs. stuck in the past wool jumper types not happy about the loss of traditions. Also with the way equipment is so variable and can be messed about with very easily its pretty much pointless unless its run in an open environment with Neo's all round and then witness the riders weigh in's. The lengths people go to to dope in real life, clearly when its as easy as an Ant + sim or not calibrating your trainer or even putting 65 instead of 85 kilos the results are meaningless

How do these 'academy' prizes validate the riders? I believe there's a Specialised tri squad that gets you kit and even a real world cycling squad offering places based on results.
