Sometimes its due to non-letter/number characters in the title, like !

As a low seed he ended up with a bad spot on the pontoon in amongst the slower swimmers. But I was surprised he couldnít get a better position after 350m. Whenever he is running injured his swim seems to improve, maybe heís been able to run for the last few weeks and forgot to swim.

The men must be in serious danger of not qualifying 3 slots for Tokyo at this point. Not sure there are 3 that deserve a slot anyway.

heart not in it perhaps? had to race to stay on the funding? in the middle of a hard block of training?

Can't see he would be in a hard block as his season's 'A' race was 2 weeks ago - and he was very competitive there.

He's been 70.3 training as a focus so maybe the top end for ITU racing is gone.

Heart not in it is a good call though - seemed very passive and unlike himself in the ITU Euros and in this race.

I wonder if this has given him a shove towards permanent long course racing, my money was previously on getting back into the Olympic cycle for Tokyo.

Jonny also well off the pace all year.

What level of funding would the Brownlee's be on? Surely they'd be means-tested out of most of it.

From @AliBrownleetri and bbc news:

"Really disappointed with today. I thought I had a decent race in me. First ever DQ in any sporting event. Was on the wrong side of the buoy and Iíve seen it on video. But was disorientated after being hit and held under the water in the roughest swim Iíve ever done."

Watched the video last night. WTF was going on there, it looked worse than a bunch of drunken AGers at that buoy; there were guys literally facing in every direction.

It felt like the DQ for the two was a bit unfair - but only because at least 5 athletes didn't make it round the buoy and only 2 got DQs.

I also felt that none of the athletes benefitted from it in those conditions and a 15sec penalty would have been appropriate.

Rules is rules though at the end of the day, if the rules mandate it is a DQ then that is the appropriate penalty
