I really like odlo base layers as you can get a wide variety of thickness. They do synthetic and merino too. I can't wear merino next to the skin as I find it itchy and have tried expensive merino and it is less itchy but still itchy.

I swear by https://finisterre.com/ base layers. They are a mix of merino and some tchy fabric.

Although I left my top in the kitchen at home yesterday, so had to run home in my work shirt under a shell, not the most pleasant.
