When I got married 13 years ago, I wasn't entirely convinced that it was the right thing to do at the time, and with my family history of failed marriages, I'm sure this played a part in my concern.

However, I can honestly say its the best thing I ever did, I'm very happily married.

what a great thread. Good luck apprenticeIM.

If you think you love her then marry her. If she supports you in your tri then she must be a keeper!

6 years and counting after going from first date to hitched in 6 months.

Two long-term friends of Wife's were married last year after being together over a dozen years. My mother-in-law is talking about "making it legal" with her partner of 20-odd years.

Essentially Wife and I said, If you jump, I'll jump.

Are you willing to jump in or do you want to jump out? Follow your bliss.

I was never the marrying kind, until I met (the future) Mrs Sched!! Very Happy
She played hard to get though, I had to ask her twice!!!
Planning for the wedding was hardwork and hellish, being wed is hardwork and blissful (as long as you remember to keep working hard).

You can never be 100%, just think of it as another tri discipline - if you put the same kind of work into it as your training - you should reap the rewards!!

Goodluck!

Oh crumbs - you've got yourself in a sticky situation there. If I was your gf I would find it very hard to get over a change of heart now - crikey if you don't know after 8 years then when are you ever going to know? That said, if you are not sure, you have to discuss it. I agree with Giantman though - I don't believe you will ever be 100% certain but the prospect of marrying the woman you have been living with for the past 5 years shouldn't make you unhappy. I also don't think you should view it as some kind of life altering experience. It is pretty much what you have been doing but having a big party and wearing a ring in the process. What's the big deal? Surely you don't treat your gf with any less respect/love etc than any married man treats his wife?

Good luck.
