I think I'd be embarrassed if I did ever get one (can't think of what it'd be for). There is such a wide range or reasons for people getting one. Some admirable e.g. Jane Tomlinson but others I don't think deserve a gong e.g. people who have earned alot of money as a reward for their job & then get a gong as well such as Mick Jagger. It seems there are too few who fit into the first category.

You jest but perhaps you should start nominating worthy people for with sufficient support they could just get it.

Award to "QWERTY" for services to Triathlon and Sport?

Could help boost the sports image. The more the merrier and all that.

So get those nomination forms sorted.

I'm sure I've been nominated for my services but I obviously didn't pay enough to get an honour...

I am in the Army and often scoff at people who are awarded OBE/MBE. However, you have to remember that they do not put themselves forward, but it is the people who nominate them that should be looked upon.

I do think awards in sport (MBE for complete teams) is now getting a little out of hand. Has the individual gone 'above and beyond'? Probably not they aim was to the win the world title - and they did. They also probably got paid very hansomely on the way.

Rant over!

I had a quick look to see if anyone I knew was on there (and there was, former work colleague).

Nice to see people who deserved a gong get one. Sir James Dyson, Dame Evelyn Glennie, for example. Another fully deserved one: James Hugh Callum Laurie OBE - no doubt winning Emmies has something to do with it. John Rutter CBE - his music is standard in a lot of American schools and churches.

But June Sarpong MBE? WTF? What did Steven Gerrard MBE do this year (besides the Cup and cheesy adverts)? Roderick David Stewart, a CBE for longevity and shagging blondes?

Personally I like the MBEs for Services to the Sport of Baton Twirling, Head Shoe Shiner for Virgin Airways and Sous Chef to the House of Commons.
