Firefox has just lost all my bookmarks!! Evil or Very Mad

booted up and it said it was updating some of the addins and then closed down. opened up and now all gone......

I knew i should have backed them up some place..damn it

You should back everything up regularly. My PC just broke down after an innocent enough update to SP2. I'd have lost 4 years of photos if I hadn't done a back up the week before. In the end all I lost was my music, which is no big deal as I have all the CD's, and emails.

If you haven't done a back up recently then sort something out soon. Bung a second HD into your machine and stick a copy of everything on that, cost you 30-40. Or one of those external USB hard drives.

Doesn't it keep backups? I know it does on the Mac, since there's a bookmarkbackups folder. Might be worth doing a search for a file called bookmark.

Interestingly it seems to be a problem that's existed in the code for a very long time since several years ago I wrote a batch file to take copies of the boss' bookmarks since Netscape had a tendency to eat them and I could never work out what caused it. Noticing the backup folder on the Mac made me wonder whether they'd acknowledged the problem

Does seem to on Windoze too - my bookmarkbackups folder is in C:\Documents and Settings\DSteel\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\4ng1g5hn.default\bookmarkbackups

when i installed v2.0 of Firefox all my bookmarks disapeared. so I uninstalled it, then re-installed it and they were back. think it is a common problem.....

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but how do you back up your bookmarks Confused
