For the first time I'm the opposite to you guys, trying to put a bit on. I was ok before I got ill but I'm now 7lbs down on what I was last month. Currently 11St-9 (just under 6foot in height). Mostly muscle tissue lost. So I'm doing a sort of atkins at moment packing the protein in and doing gym work. Finding I can't really do any long distance stuff yet (low carbs would make it very diffy anyway) but my heart still hasn't recovered so doesnt matter.

Shame can't transfer weight! Cool

Daz,

Apparently Atkins would be quite good for long distance stuff (although I wouldn't touch it myself). Most athletes eat a 40% carbs/30% protein/30% fat diet, to make sure the body is familiar with burning fat for fuel.

This is also why diets haven't worked in the past. The generally accepted way to lose weight was to reduce calories by cutting out fats. The body therefore gears itself to only burn sugar, and the fat that is already stored in the body doesn't get used.

I've always followed guidance on a 60% carb, 25% fat and 15% protein for endurance training.

How are you supposed to come out with really evil smelling farts, when you are only eating 15% protein? Get some Holland and Barrat cheapo Whey Protein. You'll be a social leper by tea time. Spread the love (and the smell). It's 'cos you care. Wink

Atkins was good for distance just not speed, always felt as if i was running in mud.

i never had any of the so called side effects, well only the one, not able to poooo, and always had the bad smelling wind Laughing Laughing Laughing Twisted Evil
but the diet it self was boring Evil or Very Mad
