OK.

Say someone was daft enough to be told about a novice triathlon in September.

Say that someone couldn't ride a bike, or even swim further than 15m.

Would it be really, really, unforgiveably stupid to say... 'hmm. Might be able to do that within seven months'.

Or am I asking the wrong people...

yeah, do it.

Six months ago I couldn't swim at all, had never run and hadn't biked for 10 years. Now I can do all three to Olympic distance and more. Obviously, don't over do it too soon, there's plenty of time.

7 months is stacks of time. Go for it. If worst comes to worst you can always use stabilisers on the bike Laughing

Jj - trick is to enter it asap then you have to train/compete

Try breaking the distances down and train bit by bit to cover them seperately. then a few months in have a go at doing the swim then bike , and the bike then run. you could even have ago at doing the whole distance nearer the event.
It doesnt matter if you breastroke the swim , pedal slowly round on your grannies shopping bike and then walk the run.

Aim for a first tri is to finish and have fun, nothing else.

enjoy
