I've knocked up a proof of concept with vBulletin. Not sure if yo know much about that TT. Hopefully we can port usernames / post counts. I have sent a test link to those that wanted to help. If the platform is liked , and it's pretty useful as its also a CMS so giving us scope to play about, then we can get to work. Demo only lasts 7 days so decision will need to be quick.

will look tomoz...busy day ahead...

At the end of the day I don't think the platform really matters too much... I doubt there is a lot of difference in forum sw these days.

I'm not terribly bothered about carrying over post counts.... I'd even suggest that we only copy across usernames that have been active in the last X years (I bet there are hundreds of bot/spam accounts in there too).

Maintaining a list back to useful / top threads in the archive would be a good idea... maybe even that basis for some basic articles.

Random thoughts blah blah

It's the link forwards that are really important, not back (although they don't want to disappear of course), but if random bod on the internet finds a thread, and wants to discuss more, they need to be directed from the archive into the new. Otherwise the link between old and new falls down.

(I am willing to help out btw, but it's far from trivial, and much easier to just move everything to someone who'll care enough because of the ad potential to keep everything going - communities are tough.)

I'll pop my email across as well hammerer.

I've worked as both developer and solution architect for yonks, currently leading a dev team. However, it's in Microsoft stack so immediately it'd cost a lot more but if I can help in any way (e.g. reviewing or something) just let me know.

It'd be a pity to lose access to the collaborative information people on here have. This forum has taken me so much further than any other resource, and it's undoubtedly down to the people constantly offering to help out.

So if nothing else, big thanks to you all folks!

you'll be more use than me. Wink

and good points Jim.

consensus is a simple forum, hopefully we can port usernames / post counts at the very least. We need it to be cheap / free. We need a way to regularly fund whatever option is chosen. we need to link both ways to archived forum. easy to do one way but not so easy to do the other.

If anyone has ideas or a good platform option or skills to knock this up pretty quickly then put it forward on this thread.

There are just short of 20,000 registered accounts in there.

So maybe 17-18,000 spammer accounts ?

I think the key thing for a future BB is to limite what and how often new joiners can post links or email addresses.

TT

First of all having been around here for over a decade let me thank you for this site.

I know that my sense of humour isn't always recognised for what it is, but that's just part of being a boring old fart nowadays.

Over the years I have found this forum to be a wise, helpful, supportive place to learn about triathlon and other endurance races. It would be sad to see it disappear into the ether.

There is a collective wisdom here that is valuable for newbies, which we all were once ourselves. Over the years it has suffered from all sorts of negative stuff, perceived cliques, excessive biff etc, but it has survived all of that.

While I don't have the skills to do it, I hope that someone does take over the reigns, and enables the next generation of triathletes, as well as us old timers.

People have helped me over the years, for which I remain grateful, while I have hopefully helped some others. While we all get a good laugh from time to time. That is worth saving.

To be honest I have never really looked at the website, I just historically have asked questions, albeit recently these have been off topic as I battle my way to surmount the limitations of spinal stenosis and get back into things, though my motivating target is mds not a tri at present, but in time I hope to give imuk another crack.

While I can't see how my knowledge and experience base (accountancy, economics and caring...oh and armchair politician) would be of much use, given the skills held on this forum, but if I can help and it is within my ability, just ask.
