I dropped into this race yesterday and really enjoyed it. I'd not done it before
But it seemed like a good one as a season opener. Did anyone else race?
Managed 3rd in Age group but only because The first fella ran a red light and got DQ'd!

I was there supporting. I'd not been before either, but looked a good event and may try and do the one later in the year. Keen to try the pool on a standalone basis too!

Planning on getting down to the August bank holiday race. Ridiculous turnout of high level athletes!

some crazy fast triathletes out there. I guess they use it as a season opener. You fellas would do really well. I'm keen to do the next one, but its only 4 days after IM copenhagen! Shocked

Didn't do it this year but have done it in the past & always highly recommend it. Loved that the marshals all called out your name, nice touch

Also raced, good event esp to open the season! Just wish you didn't have to show up so damn early and hang around for the start for so long.

Local events like this are the way forward.

That would be the one thing that put me off as well actually. I've now heard the stories of people who had nearly 2hrs15 between the mandatory briefing and their start time. That's just madness. In a previous year, one of our fast girls apparently had a 90mins sleep in the changing rooms!

Crystal Palace this weekend on the other hand is open registration/transition throughout the morning. I'm seriously glad about that, seeing as the first start times are 9ish, and I'm off after 11. I wont be turning up until about 10am I imagine.

You could just try being an impossibly slow swimmer like me then you get a nice early start time Very Happy

Think I was about 6th into the pool when I did it...

Thinking of entering the next race on the late summer bank holiday. Got until 23 August to enter.

Its a shame that they haven't had races on every bank holiday monday this year, I presume its due to a reduction in demand from us triathletes?

Its back to the old days now, most races are open for registration for much longer before selling out if at all.

Would be nice if more events did it that way round! Even with mass-start waves they usually let the fastest lot go first then the rest of us in descending order, so sometimes the front runners are finished before I've even got in the water. Leaves the course kinda empty and lonely!
