I am considering entering 70.3 Exmoor as an early season race. It seems that getting accommodation nearby is a challenge... does anyone have any advice? Generally I like to be as close as possible to the event site and have as little travel stress as possible especially with bag drops, racking and race morning etc.

Is there anywhere to park up and sleep in a camper? One option I have is to borrow a mates camper van. Hotel advice also much appreciated.

Thanks

Yes there is loads of camping. This event has a pita 3 way traffic management system in place. It is best to be on site imho! Although there is not much there beyond the café!

I don't know how you book it though. I've never had to!

So a one man tent and a guitar is all I'll need?

I have an option to stay in Dulverton but I am told that the roads getting into Wimbleball on race morning can be a nightmare. Any views/experience of this?

Thanks

I haven't found any camping space yet

Edit

Just used this link to book a space:

http://bit.ly/2q90cPh

Pretty cheap for three nights and a space for the car. All I need now is a tent...

Anyone know how close civilisation is from the campsite? I'm in a two seater driving there so will have a minimalist tent and no cooking gear.

Will bring picnic food on Friday if there isn't a restaurant in walking distance - unless they set up food stalls as part of the event?

There are food stalls as part of the site, but they expensive/not very good.

Slightly better is the small café just past the finish, but again not really for 'meals'. Think they do bacon rolls IIRC, nice cakes.

Civilisation is a fair schlep away so not walking distance by any stretch, so no pubs or restaurants unless you drive.

This is a place where you don't even get a mobile signal!

Cheers.

I'll stock up on pork pies and cheese accordingly.

With no pros in the field and AWA 'Gold' Status *hurls* I'm bib 9 for Sunday.....

Performance won't justify the front row position though...

Pinged them asking lake temperature but got no response yet.

Given how stinking hot it's been here in London, Id almost welcome a suit less cold lake to swim in.

More worried about cooking in the tent over night.

Don't worry, I won't point and laugh if you don't win. Honest.

Can't see Wimbleball being non wetsuit. It's a very deep lake, at a bit of altitude and in past years was always a couple of degrees cooler than 'other' lakes I'd been swimming in to that point.

Weather is changing over the next 24hrs down on Exmoor, maximum of 18 deg and a few showers, sounds about right for this event! I'd love it if the weather held, but it ain't gonna! I'd be more concerned about keeping warm at night!!
