Have I scuppered myself here?

From previous emails, I put on my checklist some ID, the waiver and tri club card as required for registering at Pay D'Aix tomorrow.

Noticing my tri club card has "Not A Race License" in big letters on the back yesterday I was a little concerned, but now I see the most recent email from IM says ID, waiver and valid license I think I'm ~#*$.

Am I? I don't see how I can get a medical certificate tomorrow and pay the 60 fee.

You need a triathlon England membership card. I'm sure ironman nice
Had an onsite doc to do the medical certificate so you may be ok.

Which I do - and I hope you're right - but the email says:

Don't forget to bring your photo ID, the waiver and a valid license to the registration. If you have no license, bring a medical certificate and a one-day licence can be purchased at the registration for 60 to the Ligue de Triathlon de Provence (credit card only).

Previously they said "and a ITU triathlon club membership card", and as BTF are associated I thought my Triathlon England membership card was good.

Now it says "race license" and my card says it isn't a license...

Hmmm, my TE card says I big red letters on the front

"Membership card & Race licence"

and has itu and etu logos on the back. So guess you have
Something different.

Yup my TE Membership card says that on the front too, with this message on the back "This licence is endorsed by British Triathlon for the purposes of competing in national and international competition."

a triathlon club membership card is not sufficient, you need a national federation membership card (such as the TE one) as proof of a race licence - and that's assuming that you bought a full race licence as TE do offer other membership options such as Associate which is not race valid

Which I do

As others have said, and as you've said yourself, no you don't. You appear to have a club membership card, not a Tri England / BTF annual license.

Put it another way. When you race in the UK, do you have to pay the 3-5 day license, or do you have a photocard that you pay for each year with Tri England that you show to not need to pay the day fee?

Ah. poo-poops.

It's four hours before the doctor gets here, maybe I'll try to upgrade it online.

looks like you'll have to visit the on-site medic to get a fit to race certificate,

the BTF membership race licence is the only valid one that works across Europe when racing in other national federation sanctioned events. Ironman events do need careful checking as some are run under IM rules, others under local federation rules just to add some extra confusion to the mix!

there is another option - forge one from your local GP or another medic you might know and who is happy to help. I have done that in the past for a French marathon where a triathlon licence isn't valid.

at the mo, that only applies in Paris, Lyon and Grenoble but no doubt will extend to others in the future. TP doesn't need to worry about this for where he's heading - unless he goes into any of those 3 on his travels

Looks like BTF saved me. Phoned them up and upgraded over the phone - online membership details updated immediately and showed my online membership card.

Phew!

Saved 30 medical fee and 60 race license against the upgrade cost around me 30.
