The 'classic' Nice distance (or O3). It's a distance I always found compelling, but with Nice switching to IM many years ago, this appeared to only leave the ITU Long Dist Worlds, which tbh holds little appeal to me. The article over on Slowtwitch talking to Mark Allen about it got me thinking.
Does anyone else find the distance appealing as it balances out the disciplines better than the WTC events, and wish more events of this distance were offered?

perfect distances, minimal recovery time |
Were they not simply events that hugely favoured the bike? I wouldn't touch one for that reason.

More variety is always a good thing, playing with the format or the distances. But I can see it would be a risk for a race organiser, if you don't fit 'Sprint', 'Olympic', 'Half' or 'Full' definitions then it will be harder to market your event.
I used to be involved in a local road race that was 5.6 miles long. It was that length because that is how long the loop was. It was hilly, so it was never going to be a PB course. But in the end it needed to change to either a 5 mile or a 10K distance because people wanted to race over a recognised distance.
There is also the issue that O2 ans O3 events are much more swim heavy than 'Half' and 'Full', and swim is probably the least favoured discipline by most triathletes. So you are again limiting your appeal.
So in summary, I'd like to see more options out there. But if I was organising an event, I'd stick to one of the more recognised distances.

I like the proportions but the whole things about 10x too long
Why not 400m, 12k, 2km
Do it twice over to spice it up, so 400/ 12/ 2/ 400/ 12 /2
It would be a great hours racing, or 60 minutes and 3 seconds for Jorgan

Think I'd prefer it if the swim was 3k, but I get the reasons.
They would be much easier to train for, and a lot less impact on your body, with 8 miles less running.
Another one I've seen a few places is an IM training event, full swim\bike and the run being 14k-21k
For me the IM bike leg is just a bit long, it is easy to switch off after 4.5 hours, and on a slower course like Bolton\Wales it is challenging to stay alert. When I did Bolton a few years ago, on the 2nd lap I think I went about 15+ minutes without seeing anyone and was doubting if I'd gone off course.
