it is long overdue having open and honest dialogue...we have to be free to criticise bad ideas...

Which bad ideas? Now is not a time for clumsiness toward certain groups. It's certainly a time where maintaining a positive relationship with the 99.9% of moderate muslims is critical. This is where the best 'intelligence' will come from, to head-off such attacks.

indeed Jorgan, indeed.

However, this again a backdrop of increasing intolerance in Britain, and globally.

This intolerance has sprung from a combination of:-

1. Politicians growing more isolated from the people
2. It has to be said some government policies forcing people into despair, which has feedback mechanisms into communities, and knock on effects.

If this were just a British problem it would be relatively straightforward to sort, get wiser politicians, but as it is global in nature, it will take the sort of global cooperation to value humanity that in practice will be difficult.

I realise that some here will take issue with my analysis, and fair enough, but I have spent decades thinking about this sort of thing, a lot.

While last night clearly is a tragedy, if you look at it in isolation, that would be an even bigger tragedy.

You can maintain as many positive relationships as you like for intelligence, but that is in a way reactive (even though you are preventing). Much better to deal with the solution at source, and rebalance the intolerance, the despair, the isolation that quite frankly have been caused by politicians seeking ideological solutions. Get better wiser politicians, or more realistically slap politicians around the face with wet fish so that they wake up and realise the consequences of ideological decision making.

Back in the real world, stop fracturing the country and its people.

The blowing up of people is a bad idea, irrespective of the ideology behind it...

I repeat, like all bad ideas, it should be open to criticism...

That approach really hasn't worked well so far.

When the 99.9% of 'moderates' grow a pair and stand up against this terror instead of hiding behind the coat tails of their 'religion of peace' and the BBC apologists, I might give a flying f$uk about what they have to say.

it is really stretching the imagination to think that 99% are 'moderate'...although, of course, that really depends on your definition of moderate. Pew have some interesting research on this...

I attended a lecture at Oxford University recently, by one of their Islamic scholars.

It was fascinating all about majic, daemons/jinn etc.

However when he spoke of jihad, he changed. He was clearly scared to talk about it. I guess because people now associate it with terror, when in truth it has iirc to do with making yourself a better person, fighting the internal battles within us to chip away our rough edges and make us better people.

Now, how on this planet Earth, are we going to find solutions when even university Islamic scholars seem scared to be open, and where politicians and the media see threats that are blown out of all proportion? (The true percentage of muslims who see jihad as terror must be very small, but that is an assumption).

Don't get me wrong terror is a real threat, but the solution lies more in wiser politics and responsible media coverage, than in living in fear.

Someone turn on the bleeding light switch.
