The Airport is quite close so two trips in a reasonable car is doable if your family are willing to hang around at the airport while you fanny about getting your bike to the hotel / villa

We did it that way but we were 1+3 athletes so more tolerant of fannying about. It's the only time you need more than a mid sized car.

As we were in a villa I never worried about security, especially after the race as like Ozzie I would have been fine to have never seen a bike again.

I always use my trusty DHB Bike Bag. With loads of padding it's never let me down. But most people are squeamish about soft bags.

After months / years getting my body to accustomed and moulded to MY bike I could never race on a hire bike.

Honestly lanzarote was one of the easier logistical destinations we have raced.

take your own bike its a no brainer

as mentioned I never heard of any issues with bikes or security ,

the airport and local taxis are taking bikes allover the island all year

an option

is shove your bike in a taxi and get him to meet you at accom ,if PDC Its about 20 , if La Santa its about 40

I have had my bike strapped on roof I never doubted his driving ( I gave him a funny look when he shoved it on top of his merc first there lol )

On a serious note, if you are worried about your bike, I've got a villa booked Wednesday - Wednesday, so you're welcome to keep it in the villa if your pushed for space/security.

Thank you. I haven't booked accommodation yet and am leaning towards a villa or an appt. off AirBnB so hopefully security will be less of a worry.

As others have said the logistics for Lanza are simple compared to other races.

1) there are plenty of taxis at the airport or alternatively you can hire a car quite cheaply. I've used Auto Reisen based at the airport loads of times and have never had any issues. They were recommended to me by someone who lives on the island

2) although the transition security isn't quite up to the standards of European races (you don't have your photo taken for example) I have never heard of bikes/equipment being stolen during the race or after when you store it at your apartment which unfortunately is not the case at other races I've been to eg 70.3 Swiss when someone walked off with another competitors bike and the lady next to me in transition had a load of clothing stolen.

I've always flown Easyjet, hired a car from Auto Reisen stayed cheap and cheerful in PDC ( Club Oceano or Princess Ico) never had a problem.

If you have any bike issues Revolution bikes are v good based in PDC run by British couple Dom and Mandy

Got my accom sorted. We are going Tues - Tues, staying at the Gloria Izaro Club, 2 bed appt. Just need to arrange a hire car and I'm all set.

Training was going great but I have a had a cough / flu type thing for a few weeks and I just can seem to shift it. Should be back on it soon.

Curry is back in the game.

Heaviest I've been for 6/7 years at 13st 2lb (that's big for 5, 4").

Little training for a few months, had a rotten 2017.

Bring on my first Lanzarote experience

Might look into the possibility of getting out to Lanza to support. Or see if we can time another event recce so that we're out there at the right time...

There are a few going, not as many as last year. A few of my other mates are going out as well, including Leeky and his crew.

I'm out here now for a sneaky 4 night break, weather perfect!

If you're looking for a pool swim if the sea a bit rough then head to the Barcelo in Costa Teguise, 50m outdoor Olympic pool varying prices during the day with top price of 7.50. Well worth it!

Heard yesterday that the route will be finalised very soon too. A few changes to be had. Instead of looping at El Golfo it will be out and back across the coast, no dropping down to La Santa and the rough road has been taken out to with the longer climb back to Teguise. All to be confirmed.
