All good until you got to ride in groups

I took a couple of snaps whilst running a marathon in Kyoto (much more scenic than in the UK!) and barely broke my stride getting the phone out of the bumbag and taking a picture. At best it cost me a few seconds, and I may have even sped up because I was conscious it might have cost me a little time! Point is it doesn't really have to mean compromising your race by stopping and carefully framing a shot etc! They might lose a few seconds and a place or two to their nearest competitors, but unless you're at the pointy end or in slim chance of a PB territory that doesn't matter much!

I dont give two sh1tes about them stuffing up their race, it's the entitled me generation not concentrating and taking me out on the bike I'd worry about.

The way the sport is going, I actually think a "sportif" wave would be quite popular and would solve a lot of problems.

No mass start... just chip timed and start within say a one hour time slot.

You could take part with your mates.

Allow riding in groups.

Strictly "non competitive".

Stop for photos etc.

Maybe say you can't go faster than x hours??

Then, those who want to race would have a smaller field that could be more strictly policed (drafting etc)

I guess you'd have to race on different days though. Sportif one day, race the next.

It's a thought.

I've thought similar lately, kids in finish shoot also. It could actually attract more to the sport also as some wouldn't have that fear to enter and may then decide racing is fun.

Good idea.... but then you'd have loads of people on FB bragging about their super fast Ironman on FB.

Is that what you want? 'Cos that's what'll 'appen
