Isn't that the main reason phones are not allowed on course? To not get updates?

You'll always get coaches or friends/family giving progress updates to the lead AGers/Pros. However, this instance seems like a total abuse if he was following her about on a moto/cycle. Referees on course should have nipped this in the bud; there are plenty of them at Frankfurt too.

They certainly get warned and told to get off the course in the UK. You see it a lot.

On this very subject regarding UMUK. This is in the athlete guide -

We always get gels/pass gels at this point as it is allowed but apparently at the briefing last night they said it isn't and it is a DQ. We all don't have Special Needs bags because of this so how are we supposed to get our nutrition?
How can it be wrong in the athletes guide?

raise the point with the Chief Official and Race Director and simply ask which is correct - if the athlete guide says one thing clearly but this is contradicted in the briefing (maybe they simply forgot the run needs point) then it needs clarifying. I would suggest the briefing missed mentioning this as there is so much data to go over

Thanks. It was specifically addressed in he briefing and they said it's been stopped as it isn't fair that some people have support and some don't so they changed the rule.

Ridiculous if you change it after people have not got special needs bags, escpecily when they serve up the dross gels that they do Laughing

I can see that "fairness" thing. it's not a choice matter as many athletes don't have people who can offer support at the feed station - others do - so those without are being treated unfavourably through no choice of their own.

but it should have been thought about before the race info went out

What I recall is that family can't pass the food at the special needs points, but IM staff can. It doesn't affect me so I'll admit I wasn't paying much attention.

At Bolton there used to be a special needs zone by the Bark Street feedstation where friends/ family could pass/ take items. It has gone to SN Run Bags now.

Yes. I got a SN bag in the end and as I ran past into town I shouted them and they had it waiting for me on the way back out.
