Insurance company has put me on to wheelies to replace my old bike Cannondale CAAD8 105 that is a write off. I've got £1000 to spend on a new bike
I'll be using it for commuting (all weathers), club rides, and occasional day trips with friends.
They suggested Specialized Allez Elite 2018 Road Bike but I'm wondering how the geometry compares to my CAAD8. Would still like it to be a fast ride.

Any suggestions?

Would be very personal choice imho, especially with the range of uses. Disc or not, what kind of mudguards would be acceptable, etc.
See if you can find some bikes you think look pretty, then try compare a bit on here: http://geometrygeeks.bike

Thanks for the link - useful. I don't know enough about bike geometry. From what I've read online the Allex Elite has a more relaxed position compared to CAAD8. However looking at the link you sent they look quite similar.

I managed to find a Whyte Suffolk 105 for a grand last year when I was in the market for a new cycle to work bike. Not especially light but a decent groupset, takes full mudguards and has hydraulic disc brakes.
