It does flow well, it’s flat and fast, the dead turns aren’t foot down of full stops, its nice to get out the saddle and power away for 30metres before settling into the bars again. Plus it’s a good chasing bike course as you can see people near to chase down or get away from. Im a 5.40 outlaw rider and it’s a sub 6hr bike course for me, bit slower than outlaw as less downs, generally it’s more flat.

flippin eck Dave How did you do that FFS
With cracked ribs I find they stiffen up badly 2 or 3 days after the initial trauma, but do gradually improve. Should be ok for cycling spesh as its a flat course and you dont have to get out of the saddle, but you may have to adopt a clenched fist sw1mming technique for the bad side to minimise the pain, but keeping your stroke balanced. effectively 'one armed' sw1mming!

it was very innocuous ... leaned over a gate to put some rubbish in a bin.. couldn't quite reach.. over stretched ribs were on the top of the gate and just went "crack".
That was Sunday.
Tuesday was really sore and couldn't sleep.
Been slapping profen gel on and went for a swim last night - managed 1.9K in 38 min - so 2/3 minutes slower than normal.. will try a bike later to see how it feels.
60/40 I will make it.

Great to meet you DaveM, strong aquabike. Saw you pulled over toward the end. Hope you weren't suffering!
Nice to race again TC. Love that event.
Hope Jurrasicman is awesome!

good to see you too grufft
you would have seen me stopped a few times on the bike - was taking full advantage of the gastronomic delights being offered at transition.
went as well as expected.. target was 1:20 - got a 1:22 for the swim. only swum 4 times since April and ribs were giving me some jip.
Bike - given my longest bike since Sept 16 is 63 miles (which was the weekend before MnM) and only been over 50 miles twice this year, I had no expectations. In my head I was hoping to average 20 minutes per lap, giving me a 6:40 - so was more than happy with a 6:24. - there was probably 10 minutes of stops in there too.
Really struggled laps 15-18.
Good to see TC in his usual last minute dot com arrival

I thought you did great Dave, all things considered. Fab to see you again
Was the sw1m a tad long?
I had a good race, no issues, just some issues faffing with a light which prob cost me 5th place, as despite a strong finish to the run, I just couldn't outsprint 5th to the line when I caught him right near the end. I was running on the grass verge so he couldnt hear me coming, but when it stopped at a bus stop he clocked me and reacted. I had already been caning the last half lap and just didnt have a further gear left. Great fun tho.
Really hope that John can get some assistance to put this on again next year, such an enjoyable race.

First time at this event and did the Half. Really liked it. Great atmosphere and friendly event. Can't beat the value either being closed road etc.
Would def recommend and would look to do it again if it remains. Don't retire yet John, you will only get bored.

i had the swim just under 4K on my apple watch thingy - but I did have one small navigational fiasco which maybe added 40 meters on..
the middle red bouy keeps going more right every tine I go.. lol
hope its on next year - its a cracking event (rib pun intended)
IIRC last time I did it in 2015 I had broken my collarbone and 2 ribs (during IM Lanzo in the May)
maybe its trying to tell me something....
