This is a bit random and a complete long shot but you just never know....

Someone found this bike in a field next to one of our roads here in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire. It's believed it fell off someone's car.

It's already been posted on our local Facebook pages and the word's out around the area to see if anyone knows whose it is (I believe the Police have been told as well).

The worry is it was an out-of-towner...

So if anyone's lost this, we know someone who has it!

(Obviously some sort of persuasive proof will have to be provided Wink )

Common practice around these parts is for bike thieves to nick bikes then dump them in a field.

I haven't seen the bike close up, so I don't know if it's damaged or not...

It did occur to me it might've been dumped by someone after being stolen.

It also occurred to me that maybe the rider is on the other side of the hedge and nobody bothered to check... Shocked Very Happy

Our little rural town up here is great.

Quite often on Facebook, you'll see people posting up stuff like "Found - wallet, contains 50" or "Credit Card found outside Tesco"...

i saw a picture of all the 'recovered' bikes in the MK police pound about to be auctioned off...at least one very expensive TT bike still had an IMUK race number on...even i could have tracked down the owner...

Only if the owner never expects to get it back. I cannot imagine a body less interested in returning property to people.

I guess there could be an issue with insurance if they have paid out. Who then owns the stolen bike?

that's not an issue for the police, that's an issue if the bike is returned to those original owner...

I used to work in that area (dealing with found property rather than specifically MK!). The owner clearly hadn't bothered reporting it as either lost or stolen, IMUK would have refused to provide their contact details on data protection grounds, and a request for them to contact the owner was either ignored or he informed them that he had already claimed on the insurance for it. The insurance company would then have been asked if they wanted it (now being the legal owner of the bike), but I've never known one to bother getting anything, no matter what the the value. Just a few of months ago a brand new iMac Pro worth about 3k was auctioned for not much more than a third of its value in those circumstances.
