Hi, looking for recommendations for a present for my daughter who is a keen competitive swimmer. She would like a watch she can wear to track her swim training (pol sessions) but would also like to be able to track runs when she goes out with her mum.

So what would folks recommend that isnt going to cost silly money?

Cheers

A used Garmin 910XT is probably a good option

Any of the multisport watches to do this would cost silly money - well not silly money because they are very complex but they cost a lot.

So, maybe get 2?

A basic poolmate like this -> https://www.proswimwear.co.uk/swimovate-poolmate-2-black.html
A basic run watch like this -> http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7524503?CMPID=BPLA01&_$ja=tsid:72553|acid:38002085|cid:91655325|agid:4458175364|tid:pla-4578228984174689:aud-805836077|crid:11753321099|nw:search|dvc:c|st:garmion%20forerunner%2015|mt:be|loc:&cmpid=BPLA01&msclkid=8e24cb3671bf10222aa1904b33b8a02d&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Sports%20%26%20Outdoors%7C%7CMed&utm_term=4578228984174689&utm_content=Sports%20%26%20Outdoors%7C%7CSports%7C%7CWearable%20Tech

sorry for the links - just an idea though.

Always nervous of second hand Garmins....after a couple of years the updates seem to slow them down massively and render them incapable of being accurate.

I bought a factory recon 910xt and it's been fine for years. However, for the OP a better option will be a basic forerunner for running and the Garmin swim for swimming. The swim software in the 910 is way behind. No countdown, no drill mode. Plus the 910 is chunky. A competitive swimmer who doesn't usually wear a watch would hate it.

I think that a factory recon 910XT you get a lot for your money. If you can get a factory recon 920XT even better

The later 935 has much better swimming functionality, but I found that the 910, despite being basic did a good job in the pool, where the 935 is much better is being able to measure your rest intervals as part of a swim set and being able to separate and record your drills
