Like I said though, FB is the 3rd most visited website on planet Earth - surely they can handle a few thousand triathletes tuning in!

Only FB would be horrible; sure the 70.3WC kept dropping out. Took me bloody ages to work out how to not see all the likes and comments as well....

The extra load with thousands more tracking Kona...I'm not confident.

If the Facebook site can't handle the traffic, then this won't make any difference whatsoever, but I just read ASO (aka TdF) are handling the production of the coverage. So on that basis, it could be that the quality of coverage, and graphics providing in race context, become very TdF-esque.

I've been watching a few of the autumn classics, and you can always tell an ASO race. The quality of coverage is generally a lot better.

So how do you get rid of the notifications and stuff - Im not going to want it all flashing up as Im trying to watch!

Live video does actually have quite a few different demands than the load of facebook and can break things in quite different ways, but no it should not have any problems.

WHEN IS THE BIKE COUNT?

I wanna see what TT bikes look like these days - and have a laugh at some "Legacy" mug walking in with 22 gels taped to their top tube.

Here are the picks so far for Mens winner, and the current odds:

Lionel Sanders, 21/10: Jorgan, PCP, gingerbongo, fruit thief
Patrick Lange, 3/1: tuckandgo, Buzz_, Chrace, TRO Saracen, hammerer
Sebastien Kienle, 7/2: apma, jayski
Joe Skipper, (no odds): TriSam, explorerJC
David McNamee, 11/1: Poet

Unless I have missed it no-one has picked Gomez at 3/1 . Patrick Nilsson at 9/1 is another

For the women's race it looks like everyone has picked Daniella Ryf at 4/11

Any more punts?

I didn’t say McNamee would win, just wondered why you don’t hear much about him?
(I was here when Joe was starting up, so am also rooting for skip skip skip)

My picks would be;

1) Seb
2) Sanders
3) McNamee

First block of coverage is described as ‘live bodymarking’😜

Still I suppose marginally better than ‘live queueing outside the third portaloo from the right’....

Wondering how the actual coverage is going to be. Think last year it required triangulating footage, the IM tracker and ST/TT threads to see what was unfolding and who the movers were. And I still missed Mcnamee’s podium charge.....

i am not sure that i picked Skippy except that i hope he has a good race..he is known locally as "who the feks Joe Skipper???".

i hope Gomez goes well - he seems to be a nice lad who, in any other era, would have cleaned up at Oly distance...

Last year the (GPS) tracker was good, you saw what was happening before Welch tardily reported it.

I've also bookmarked the German ZDF site for German live streaming; a good contingency and often different coverage. Doesn't seem to block my UK ISP on laptop; although I have a VPN on my phone for watching foreign content.

Men:

Lange
Gomez
Currie

Rationale: Keinle and Sanders KO each other on the bike trying to catch onto Wurf (who is swims better and is already up the road?) and trying to gap the uber swim/runners who all drag each other round the bike and then produce something special on the run.

Women:
Rhyf
Charles
Daylight

Sounds like Charles is swimming well and motivated for the record, and surely stronger on the bike and run, however Rhyf seems also to be on another planet, so probably they get into T2 together, and Rhyf wins with a slightly quicker marathon.
