I've just purchased a Garmin 735xt that I intend to wear as my everyday watch. Prior to this I've only ever used them for training sessions.

I've always synced manually after a training session and tend to leave the Bluetooth on my phone switch off most of time.
Just wondering what everyone else does re Bluetooth and the impact on battery life. Do you leave both watch & phone on all the time and just let it sync itself whenever it likes?

I'm not bothered about notifications on the watch so that's not a consideration.

I do this. It probably does reduce the battery life a little, but the impact is very little. The frequency and length of activities that use GPS will have a far greater impact on battery life.

I just leave mine (920) on all the time, and BT on the phone. I've never noticed any discernible difference on battery life on either device when just being used for day to day activity tracking.

The main drain on the watch from what I understand is if it has BT switched on and is actually out of range of the phone. It's then trying to connect all the time. In the same way that the biggest drain on a phone is being out of phone signal and not turning it on aeroplane mode.

I have a 235 and like the others just leave it on, on both. Can't say it affects battery life much. Having the watch notifications on was really annoying and did quickly drain the watch battery.

Bluetooth low energy (BLE) uses very little power to maintain connection, you won't really notice it in day to day usage. Problems might come if you are at the edge of range with your phone (say you leave the phone charging downstairs over night and wear your watch in bed upstairs).

On my 935 I mostly leave the BT on

I do turn it off if running ultras though where I am trying to eek out the most from the battery
