Hi All
I am considering chaning my broadband provider from BT. I have been with BT for several years and cannot complain about the service but the price (£24.99) seems a little steep.
I am temted by the Orange £40 per month deal which includes a decent mobile phone package as well as unlimited broadband but wanted to hear what Talktalk users felt about the free broadband from Carphone Warehouse. I have heard that it has gone downhill since it went free.
Any comments or suggestions for other deals appreciated.

I would go with the Orange deal as you don't have to change from BT and depending on the length of contract you get up to 18mths free and by then you can look for the next 'freebie'
Or you can look at the Pipex deal they are advertising just now.

we moved our phone to talktalk... but specifically not the broadband as it had only just been launched.
i'm giving it 6months to a year for the service to mature and the market to settle down so i can see how good they actually are.

We use TalkTalk 'free' broadband, and are very pleased with it. Thankfully we haven't had to contact their support as I believe that this is still pretty unresponsive (although may have changed more recently).
I've had a good broadband service so far - very few connection failures, dropped connections or poor connection speed. However, the service is said to be up to 8Mbit, but I've always had a connection 2-2.2Mbit. Apparantly it is something to do with the cable quality between me and the exchange. Still, I'm happy with the speed for the time being.
All in all, £21 per month for line rental, broadband and all landline calls (including international) seems very good to me. I don't know why people persist in paying BT so much money?

Can't comment on the broadband bit, but my firm switched to Orange phones a year ago and the coverage is rubbish! Of the six people in my team, four have zero coverage at home (of which three are inside the M25) and reception/holes/etc are generally poorer than either the Vodaphone or TMobile that I have used before.

The carphone warehouse have been promising my parents 8mb broadband for about the last 8 months! They say now that is said in the small print that it would be "up to" 8mb so in theory that is ok, but it was sold to them as being 8mb straight away. This was by a member of the family who works for the carphone warehouse. Whenever they mention it now she goes straight into sales mode! I think the service, not just from her but from the call centres has been appalling and I really would rather go with BT, even though they are more expensive for that reason alone.

Don't go Talk talk at this time.
I changed to them in April, phone changed over straight away no probs but I am still waiting 20 weeks later for them to sort the Broadband. It might be free, but it would have to be!
I have no idea when I will get it as there is no way you will every get through to the customer services, tried maybe 60 times now. Left half a dozen emails and not a single response.
I got hold of the CEOs (Charles Dunstone's) email address at the beginning of the week and cc'ed him in on a copy of my last request for info. Within 30secs I got a response from him appologising and promising to get someone on the case - not holding my breath though!

I put my mother-in-law onto Talk Talk recently. Their mail servers had major problems for several weeks and customer service was patchy at best. The problems have now settled and ultimately, if it stays stable, I believe it's a good deal as her bill including Broadband will be the same as voice-only previously with BT. But I'd persoanlly be nervous about moving to them just yet - they appear to be over-subscribed and struggling.
My Dad rang Orange yesterday to get his Pay-as-you-go account closed. It's timed-out since he went onto NTL broadband but doesn't bounce emails so people have no idea it's a 'dead' account. Orange customer support were downright rude to him. I wouldn't touch them with a disinfected barge pole.

If your response was that quick from him, I'd bet he must have an autoreply on!
I advised my Mum to write to him too, after she told me exactly what you posted following her attempt to take up the offer. I wouldn't consider talk talk right now.
I'm able to activate my Orange free broadband on Saturday - plus I got a fancy phone upgrade in the deal (as I was already an Orange & wanadoo customer, so just had to change contracts) it's no more expensive and I get more free minutes and texts than previously.
