How many of us will be doing HIMUK?

I will be arriving on Saturday, so I'll be cutting registration a bit fine. Why is it so early? I can't go down on the Friday! Confused

Anyone know of anywhere good to eat near the castle? I'll be staying at the campsite, so I won't have a car to be mobile with.

BB,

Do you know where the campsite is? I am probably going down to watch a friend. If the campsite is near the castle then it's right in the centre of Sherborne so you won't have any probs finding anywhere to eat - though will be v.busy. Sherborne is a pretty small place Very Happy

On the subject of HIMUK...

Getting scared??? Very Happy

What about the 1600 mass start swim - hope the lake hasn't dried up. Zowzers, that is going to be one spectacle - don't think I'd like to be in the middle of it though. What are your tactics?

Which hill is that Daryll?

There is nothing too steep on the course, just longer grinding climbs. The climb at the start of the lap is the longest, but I think the hardest section is when you start to return at the far end of the lap up to the high point at Giants Head - It's a real slog, and could be hard second time round.

TT day - is this going to work? What counts as being online? Just having the site open in a browser?

Chris, just keeping yourself on-line and checking in every now and then to participate in 'chat' I guess is all....

TT,
I'm personally going to take a risk and start a row or two from the front and right in the middle. I did this for the first time at London Tri, and, despite finding I couldnt do proper stroke for firt 80% of the race, I did a very good time for my standard. Lets face it, you are with decent swimmers, who also cant get out of the pack, but will pull you along for most of the swim. You can then draft and finally wind-down before the end. Thats my theory anyway Rolling Eyes will let you know if it works out.

I thought there was a very nasty hill on the course - somewhere near where the loop actually begins? Sad

The 23 users was an anomoly caused by AOL browsers. Pretty sure that 1 person was responsible for 20 ish people simultaneously!

Darryl,

Yeh, I know the bit you are talking about. Have you seen the vid for the section.... It starts just at the commencement of the loop. May give you a better idea.

http://www.tritalk.co.uk/articles/sherborne/2.htm

It's fairly tough but not too steep. I'm hoping to get up there to get some nice photies.

For the swim, I'll be waiting around. I'm a strong, confident swimmer, and I can swim a tri 1500 metres in just over half an hour, and I'm not at all slightly built. I just don't fancy the idea of the 1600 man washing machine. I might even wait for a minute or two after the horn, before setting off. I aim to enjoy this race (I'm not competitive) rather than flogging myself, as my year's highlight was TLD. Cool

As for the hill, I train on the North Downs, so I can handle really steep slopes, just not long "drags". Smile
