Andy,
The swimming technique xection in 220 this month is quite good, encouraging you to reduce drag.

I've booked in for lessons at the local pool but they're tied to the school term so they're not sure I can start until after Christmas. They'll phone me if there's a place. Don't see why adult improvers should be tied to school terms but it's a crazy world. 4.50 for half an hours lesson which is nice and cheap.

I joined the gym while i was there so i can do cycle classes followed by abs workout. should be an experience! Laughing

I did my induction at the gym today and as soon as they'd finished showing me equipment about a billion kids turned up and occupied everything. Anyway, the gym over looks the pool which was empty so I went for a swim.

With an empty pool I was able to swim without worry about crashing into someone or getting in anyone's way. I managed to swim several whole lengths without much problem. Someone said to relax and not to gasp and that's what worked for me. I was able to concentrate a little on technique too. I'm well pleased, feel I've got somewhere at last. Swam a mile in an hour so I need to swim twice as fast as I am now!

Thanks for the advice.

Think of swimming like martial arts. Everyone can punch and kick a bag but to varrying natural ability and if you want to improve you need a teacher. Even Bruce lee's tao of JKD can only take you so far. I too am an un-natural swimmer and have discovered that there is no miracle cure! slowly and surely things start to come together as your body begins to learn what is required out of it so reduce a little drag, catch the water a little better, pull a little longer and slowly things improve.
