Snap!

No info despite a few messages to trafeco but I work near there and have had a reccy.

What ever roads they pick it's pancake flat and good quality tarmac, the lake don't look too bad.

Sorry I can't give you no more.

Does anyone know whether many people have signed up?

I very much get the impression from the continuos plugging in the Birmingham Evening mail that it might be a little undersubscribed... I appreciate it was added to the calendar late in the day but seems like it has the potential to be a good event!

Just had an info pack through.

Swim is 1 lap for the sprint, 2 for the oly, deep water start, 'beach' exit with about 200 - 300m flat to transition.

The bike is a 3 lapper for the oly and it's a bit of a spiders web on the sheet but it looks like 2 different cicuits, sprint is a 2 lapper

Pass on the run

Registration is from 6.30

Wave age groups are split 8.30 - sub 34 Sprint
8.40 35-44 Sprint
8.50 Female Sprint
9.00 45+ Male start
9.45 Male Oly
10.25 Female Oly

I'll go and have a look at the bike this week and give some feedback

Not a huge field 80 ?? in male sprint 40 -50 Male Oly ?? Can't be bothered counting.

OH AND IT'S £8 TO PARK!! Not be doing this one again

I may be going to spectate - if you're in your TT gear I will try and take a photo (if I remember my camera).

As for the parking charge - my brother in law and I went to the 'Outdoor Show' a few years back. Rather than pay the outrageous car parking we cycled a tandem mtb there (from a place called Knowle which is quite near).

Had a quick spin round most of the bike course last night apart from the NEC section. Road surfaces are smooth for about half and a little bit knobbly for the other half. No major potholes as long as you ride outside the drain line.

If the wind continues to gust as it was last night then anyone who's riding with discs might have fun for about 1/3 of a mile along the A452 as there are fields to the right with not a lot of protection from the wind.

Course is as flat as any I've ridden with maybe a 1 in 50 'slope' in the business park.

Lots of signs around there saying delays possible but nothing mentioning roads being closed although the race info says they will be, better hope so!

Symes - I would have joined you if I'd known as I was out for a ride in that neck of the woods yesterday myself! The wind was horrendous - I was only averaging about 12 mph on some sections....

I'm not doing this weekend's event but will be along to watch and support - do you know where I can find details of the timetable/start times? Trafeco's website still seems a bit thin on info....

Craig

Craig - certainly was a bit strong, I knew I felt quite good but getting up the hill at the end of the Collector road going to the NEC at 14mph told me all I needed to nkow about the direction of the wind!

I've pm'd you my email address, if you send me a mail I'll reply with the info Trafeco have sent out today inc start list and times

I thought it was a race with huge potential - yes we could have done with some water on the run and an extra marshall here and there but i think trafeco were let down last minuit with marshal issues.

please keep this one going, and advertise it a bit more....

tbh it was an absolute farce............the bike course was all over the place i actually manged to do the right route even if marshalls did try and send me the wrong way. but some guys i know only rode 9miles in total which is not good and some rode almost 20!
i am not overly fused as i was just using it as a training race but i feel sorry for the guys that wanted to qualify for vancouver, i am looking forward to see what is done about it!!!

The bike section was a bit of a nightmare. I managed to ride the right route through luck more than anything, I still spent most of the last lap thinking I had gone wrong loosing all momentum - spent a lot of time slowing down looking lost saying which way now. I also managed to over take someone twice - once on the bike and once on the run which was pretty clever as he never re-over took me.

Got to agree --it was a right f*****g co*k-up.
-Poor marshalling--i think most were just 'people in fluro jackets' rather than proper race marshals-who generally know the score.
-Bad choice of how to run a 2 lap course (sprint) (Coloured bands work well everywhere else)
-Changes of swim and bike courses prior to event and susequent to paperwork being sent out.
-Failure to keep traffic off the 'closed road' course. Some real nasty incidents.
-Failure to deliver on marshals being on the confusing lane changeover section. 6 promised .0 delivered
I really don't like to slam organisers, but this was an event which was a qualifier for the Worlds-hence a lot at stake. Yet it was run at a new venue and clearly there were issues that may or may not have been within the control of the organisers.
I really wouldn't be wanting to sort this mess out and the BTA Qualifications if I were the race director---one hell of a lot of unhappy and irate triathletes last seen giving them stick .
Justifiably so.
