Well got back into the bike riding thing good style with my first spinning class for months. And boy was it tough. Twisted Evil

But not sure if I should be doing such a high intensity work out so early, should I just stick to endurance slow pace turbo sessions or dose one spinning session a week make no difference?

One session a week? Can't see it doing any harm, as long it's not one of those instructors who believes in spinning at 140rpm with no resistance.

After all, if some ofthe fat bar studs in the gym can do it, anyone can! Twisted Evil

Spinning is a gift from God !

why ?

1 I loved loud fast music
2 I love hard exercise
3 At our gym most of the lady instructors are drop dead

and after much asking at my gym they have introduced two classes in one night so I can do more ( and stay on the bike for the half hour gap )

So I now do 2 x 45 min classes (plus30min in between) on a Monday,
Tue 30min class, Wed 45min spin then circuit class. Sat sneak into the spin studio 45min before the 45min class starts ( after 1hr swim )

can you tell i like spinning ?

I do find sometimes some of the exercises the instructors come up with are a waste of time and could even cause injury, so I just crank it up and climb on my own.

and it has to be to Techno

There's a thread on spinning in the archives but generally I find that instructors don't have a clue what they're doing, even when they've been doing spinning for ages.

Sometimes I like going into the gym, stick on a Euphoria CD, and spin on my own for a 90mins. Classes are too short and even a back-to-back session is only 1.5 hours long, minus the warm ups and cool downs.

Used to do 3.5 hour marathon sessions in Italy - about once a month - where 3 instructors did about an hour each. Excellent, as Mr Burns would say! Twisted Evil

Great feeling after a marathon sesh - must be like finishing the HIM UK. Totally drained but feeling of accomplishment.

Spin v. Turbo trainer - spin's cheaper (free), unless I quit the gym altogether.

3 hours of spinning would be waaay too much for me.

I teach spinning (after years of racing bikes TT, road and MTB).

My classes are intense sessions, and I couldn't keep that pace up for 3 hours at a time. OK - if I was taking it easy, I could pace myself for 3 hours, but I'd rather be out on the road.

I liken a spin class to a good interval session on the Turbo. It's only an hour, but you get a good workout.

BUT - remember - you are in charge of the resistance you put on the bike, so if you wanna take it easy in the class, just peg it back a bit.

(Just don't come up to me at the end of the class complaining it was too easy though, even when everyone else is on their knees, and it was your fault for not using enough resistance. I don't like that ! ) Wink
