Stu - you didn't need to rewrite your post - I wasn't offended!
I've been working hard in my running this winter - I've doubled my weekly mileage (halved the bike miles), taken up cross country and have also been putting in some track work. 10x400m last night - 4x1k planned for tomorrow after swimming.

I can offer you the following challenges, none of which involve swimming, as I know you're a bit embarrassed about that at the moment Wink

- Cross County, East of Scotland League, Broxburn Sat 22/11
- Cyclocross, Plean Country Park, Sun 30/11

Do you fancy either?

Cheers, Andy

ps Forgot about another great race coming up: Runners v Cyclists, Caird Park Dundee 28/12 (I think) - pick your weapon of choice!

Just thought it was a bit close to the bone. I would like to decline both of those events as I cant afford to enter either!

The xc is free if you're an saf and athletics club member - I'm with Central.

The cx is 8 if you're an scu member (10 otherwise).

The cyclists v runners race is genuinely free. You can optionally donate a prize (unwanted xmas gift usually), and the winner gets first choice. If you don't put in a prize it's good form not to pick one out again. Last year I converted one of those cheap 1/2 bottles of whisky they hand out at aberfeldy into a huuuuge box of chocolates. Plus I got a disproportionately large trophy. I'll probably run not ride this year, so I guess the trophy's going back!

Cheers, Andy

Regarding the close to the bone comment: It's something people have said to me over and over. Andy couldn't you run faster if you rode slower?

Here's my dilemma:

Out of the water 10th.

I know I can bike through the field and start the run 1st on 2nd in most domestic races. Then what happens? I try to hang onto that position. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

On the other hand if I moderated the bike a bit and say started the run in 5th place would I be able to make up ground?

Maybe, maybe not. If I could run a 17min 5k then maybe I could. At the moment, I'm always going to lose a minute per 5k to the other guys in the top 5.

If this winter's running plans work out, then I might have a choice of strategy. As things stand I've only got one weapon to use!

Cheers, Andy

Hii,

I'm really having trouble finding a decent racing pin-up swimwear for lap swimming. I just got one from Athleta and had high hopes for it, but it's tight on my upper body (the side seams actually leave marks that last for 2 days), and it's loose in my behind. I'm a size 12ish, but don't have a big butt, and have kind of a larger upper body frame.
